Froyo for galxy 5?

Hi there,

I've had a quick look through this thread and wish to thank for the wealth of information on here.

I am in need of some clarification as to which firmware for 2.2 I download for my i5500 for 02 in the UK.

Is GT i5503 upgradable to gingerbread ?
Any One Tell Me ........Plzz

that is fake...

I'm thinking of buying the i5500 (galaxy 5/europa) in the u.k. but want 2.2 for the tethering and install on SD. I've read all the above and this thread here GUIDE- UPDATE YOUR SAMSUNG GALAXY 5 (I5503 OR I5500) TO FROYO (ANDROID 2.2) and it all seems fairly straight forward. however, my question is, how can you be sure you don't have some dodgy modified ROM that is configured to harvest your user names and passwords to a central server? is there place where you can get official google releases that can be chksumed for example?

however you can get it and install it now from Samfirmware.
Im from europe and it works no probs. just be sure to do
FULL WIPE /factory settings/ after you install it.

Its faster, looks better and has some new goodies.
Try it :D

which version did you use? US?

sorry for 3 posts in a row, just trying to get my head around all the information. am i right in thinking that i can use the US firmware for 2.2, but i have to select the europe ops file?

also, if an official europe 2.2 comes out, how do i get that, or will i be stuck with getting it from samfirmware ??

Thanks! And you've had no problems?

Yes one, but that's are fixed :D
My internet didn't work by mobile internet. (Wifi does work)
Cause I lost my APN settings while upgrading.
So I called my provider, and they gave me the setting etc.

Now I don't have any problem with that.
The only thing I don't like a lot that it's in American English, I prefer Dutch. I come from the Netherlands. so...

And if you're upgrading, don't blame me if the upgrade goes wrong!

Just wanted to let you all know that the 2.2 firmware works great on my Galaxy 5 (India) except for the compass which goes bonkers on 2.2. If you use the Galaxy 5 extensively for navigation like me you might be in for some trouble. I rolled back to 2.1 and it works perfectly fine now.

Still waiting for the official 2.2 release in India.

Hi, im asking the same issue, 'cause i'm from Chile and i would like to upgrade my Galaxy 5 to froyo, and my telephone model is GT-5500L, so i can`t upgrade to froyo, that's what i understand. Thanks

It says this on samfirmware:

''If you come from America don't flash! (Ask for a firmware in the forums)''

Does this apply if you are in Canada also? Also:

You havent given any information about your phone exact model, earlier firmware or the firmware you used to flash. I am guessing you used a ROM that is prefixed I5508.... (its for China). Reflash it with ROM for USA. If i remember the file name it is I5500LUYJP2 . It should work after that.

The first two are ok, the .ops and the Odin is fine. You are using the wrong firmware, you would have found it under firmware for asia, scroll down to USA and download I5500LUYJP2.rar (assuming you are downloading the firmware from News - www.SamFirmware.com) You should be fine after flashing with this firmware. You can always get back here if you dont succeed :)

Im not very sure but try these settings,

1. Create a new APN
2. Name it anything, you could use "VODAFONE LIVE" (without quotes)
3. Set APN: "portalnmms" (without the quotes)
4. Leave all the rest as it is
5. Save the APN
6. Select to activate the APN (It should appear under APN if you saved it)
7. If it doesnt work try restarting the phone, it should work for sure after restart if the settings are right.

Sorry if it doesnt work, let me know i will try and source the settings out again. You should also be able to call your local customer care and get the settings over the phone.
