Froyo is the best thing I've seen yet for the Ally

I'm very pleased with the performance thus far, and for me, it has been rock solid. I haven't had one reboot, Forced Close, or even a dropped call. I can't wait until the Devs have a chance to develop Custom Roms from this. One is out already - Byron. It's been especially designed for Social Networking.

I'm anticipating the time when we have an easier root solution, Overclocked Kernels, and who knows? Maybe even some sort of 3rd party "flash" solution. It's supposed to be impossible, but the ROM Gods seem to be capable of almost anything.

I can't wait to see what Drellisdee, Trident, Death2All and all the other great devs have in store for us. Exciting days are ahead!

I know some folks have had a negative experience with FroYo. Please, don't give up before getting some help, either via post or in IRC.

Apparently we're in the lucky minority, but I have had no problems so far. A couple little nuances I had to adjust and/or get used to but nothing that was failing to work.

I agree with bjones... I feel like I have a new phone. Thank goodness my girlfriend understands me and let me have a few moments with my phone when I got the OTA update Sunday morning! haha

Yep...knock on wood, but 2.2.1-rooted is fast and stable for me. The little annoying lags from the stock 2.1 are gone, and the random reboots I was getting from the alternate 2.1 ROMS I tried are gone as well. In fact, it's zippy enough that I'm not sure I need an OC'd kernel.

I actually like the official Apps2SD implementation better than the all-or-nothing implementation in the alternate 2.1 ROMs, which caused problems for me in terms of widgets and other apps that didn't run reliably from the ext partition. The official implementation is admittedly more limited in the apps that can officially be moved to SD, but since I'm rooted, "Move2SD" and "App 2 SD Free" help overcome some of those limitations.

And I'm not much into changing themes - I've got Launcher Pro Plus laid out like I want, which is good enough for me.

So I'm not even sure if I'll load any 2.2.1 ROMs as they become available.

I still wish there was more internal memory for loading big, piggish apps like Angry Birds, and it might be nice to have Flash (though I'm fine without it). But overall, the Ally is now the phone I was hoping for when I bought it.

Cheers,
