froyo out now possibly???

Well i just tried the software updater and it still couldnt find any update so i'd say they are miss informed or not checking their facts...at least for the UK version :)

Wish they would hurry up! Being stuck on 2.1-update1 is annoying :(

You know there are very stable 2.2 versions out already, no? I personally have Cyanogen on my phone and don't have any problem with it, even with battery life (get more than 2 days out of it with average use).

no there arent stable 2.2 versions out yet...

all the Cyanogen ROMs and such that you will see out there are just the 2.2 'front end' placed onto a 2.1 engine.

so other than getting to use apps that were designed for 2.2 you dont get the true experience of being on froyo.

You might want to check Nadlabak's, GOT's and all others websites again, 2.2 kernel has been used since last October (not final version though, but 2.2 anyway). So 2.2 is running on 2.2 engine.

After reading that post, I went and downloaded the G.O.T. version and loaded it - works very well - the details from the device show:

Firmware Version 2.2.1
Firmware Config Version
GAS_EMEA_USAMS1FRYORTGB_P002
Kernel
2.6.32-0-ge635aa4

There is a definite speed-up as well compared to the 2.1 version that was on the device.

It would still be nice for Motorola to sort out a kosher release though!

nope, you're wrong..

IceAndFire & G.O.T ROM use 2.6.32 kernel (Android 2.2 use kernel 2.6.32) :D

but if you're using MotoFrenzy, it's still using 2.6.29 kernel (Android 2.1), but look like Android 2.2 ;)

ooooh id love to be wrong :)

when i looked at the different ROMs available 3 months ago there was the issue with the locked boot loader only allowing motorola signed ROMs

im guessing the folks at XDA have been able somehow to either sign custom ROMS as a moto ROM or have been able to unlock/bypass the bootloader locking?

anyone have any details on how they got around it?

the bootloader still locked..

the XDA use leaked signed-kernel from motorola (whoever leaked/stole this kernel might be having RSA key for our Milestone)

if he release the RSA key to the public, so we are completely Free to sign our custom kernel !!

P.S: stolen RSA key is just my imagination :D
