Froyo Over/Under

Hey Folks,

I love doing over/under bets at work. So... without any money on it (because this is a family friendly forum)...

If/when Froyo finally becomes available for Captivate, I figure it'll take 10 seconds to be posted here.

Over or Under?
 
So there are that many people still on 2.1?
Take the leap and head over to xda and grab yourself the sentrion's 1.45ghz froyo.
 
Pointless thread, but...over. This is not the place I go to get the North East West South in any timely or accurate manner.

un (to me, at least). If I get impatient enough, I'll root and install froyo that way.

If it's ROM related, I'm more likely to see it first on XDA, especially in the Android Development forum. That place is the first place I've seen builds posted. There are a bunch of devs out there chomping at the bit for the next Froyo build so they can work on it, since all the devs are over on XDA, it makes sense to me to check there first. Android Central for general news isn't bad either...

lol Well we can see you have never tried it. Criticizing something without trying it is like saying pizza is horrible and you don't know what it is. 1st off the roms they publish are hardly buggy.

And once you flash a i9k rom it's so smooth and flawless you dont wanna go back.
 
I'll betcha all 10 quatloos that somebuddy here will get an announcement post ready and waiting in the wings, monitor twitter for the release, and then bang the Submit button here to beat that 10 second mark.

I'll also betcha 10 quatloos it's been done almost exactly that exact same way for another phone in this forum.

And I'll even bet another 10 quatloos that it won't be me, for this phone, this time. ;)

So - put me down for under 10 seconds, and cheers! :D

I'll take that bet, but I'm a couple of quatloos short. However, my friend Mr. Harabe in Nigeria will be very happy to deposit a large sum of money in your checking account if you'll just wire him your information and pay a small, reasonable customs fee.:p

(I'm more interested in when it will actually get here. Was talking to a friend who manages an AT&T store, and he is pessimistic that it will be here before the end of the year. Which bites, because at one point they were really, really sure it would roll out before December. :( That's why I haven't gone for a beta - I'm thinking there must be something seriously wrong to make them drag their heels this much, and I'm worried it's a security issue.)
 
Its on thet way. my Girlfriend got the update txt late last nite. although i have not. so usually its within 24 hours after the txt that the updates roll. so we will see. im on pins and needles to see if its any different than what i flashed to!

I've been following the Cognition thread on here and XDA for quite some time. I don't need to install it myself to be aware of the bugs, the problems people have, or how quickly they need to churn out updates to fix the issues raised in a previous update. Indeed, reading threads ahead of time to educate oneself about issues before install is responsible and expected behavior.

The official changelog alone for the Cognition ROM proves that they can be quite buggy.

And once you flash a i9k rom it's so smooth and flawless you dont wanna go back.

"Flawless"? How's your bluetooth working out for you? There are so many complaints about static on BT headsets when using i9000-based ROMs on the Captivate that it's generally accepted as one of the things you have to to give up if you want to run one. I talk on my BT headset more than I hold the phone to my head, so I'm not interested in making my phone a guinea pig to run ROMs for different hardware.

Yes. "Different hardware". The Captivate has some different hardware than other Galaxy S phones, which is the source of many of the problems when trying to use i9000 ROMs on it. The modem is different and requires different drivers. The Captivate also has a custom "Audience" voice processing chip.

Oh, but I forgot... I don't know anything of what I'm talking about.

whatever u say. these custom roms are far better then stock rom even for 2.1.....and ofcourse its big task to make custom rom by few people so u might get few bugs...Samsung is a huge company but still couldnt come up with a buggy free or any kind of froyo rom

so stop whining buddy and go for custom rom....atleast u will have froyo and stable rom with bugs than useless Stock rom 2.1 with bugs...

2.1 is hardly "useless". It might have quirks, but everything (aside from GPS) at least works. On the custom ROMs, "little" things like bluetooth and/or wired headsets don't work... and being able to make phone calls on my phone ranks a bit higher than using it as a GPS.

Then there are the many other nuisances, like no haptic feedback on the "Home" button, etc. All part of the evidence that this is not the proper code for this unique hardware. Square peg, round hole.

I'll wait for the official Froyo release from Samsung/AT&T, then see what the hackers cook up using that as a baseline.
