FROYO question .....from a noob

Dagan

Newbie
Ok, it's no secret that I'm a noob when it comes to this so please bear with me as I try to explain my concerns..

First off, since I was frantic in trying to get 2.2 on my vibrant, I successfully rooted and (flashed) a 2.2 install using the following link tutorial...
http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-upgrade-samsung-galaxy-s-to-android-2-2-froyo-build-i9000xxjph-guide/#comments

The update was successfull however I no longer had any kind of signal (no 3g..no signal bars..just a blue circle with a line through it meaning no service)

Realizing that I just hid a dead end, I went here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnY7P14JSWQ&feature=player_embedded#!

Downloaded the 512 pit file and also downloaded the T959UVJFD tar file and followed the instructions on the video and successfully reverted to stock.

Before I get into the meat and potatoes, I will go into my phone info..
Build number- ECLAIR (no numbers, just ECLAIR)
Kernal version- 2.6.29
Baseband version- T959UVJFD
Firmware version- 2.1 update 1

In reverting back to stock, I have noticed several apps missing that was installed during the last OTA update which was my initial ECLAIR..task manager/t-mobile tv (or something like that) just to name a couple.

Ok now for the questions...

First..since I essentially manually flashed (don't know if I'm using that term correctly) my current version of ECLAIR, do I have the correct version since I no longer have those apps that were included with the OTA ECLAIR?

And second..which is my main worry..
Will I be able to recieve the OTA FROYO update that is about to hit the airwaves here shortly?

As to date there is nuttn really wrong with my phone lol I just wanted to 2.2 FROYO...I just hope I didn't mess anything up.

If my answer reflects that i'm up the creek without a paddle...I will GLADLY pay someone in the St.Louis area to fix whatever I did :(

Yes, you should be able to update to Froyo OTA. You have now installed the stock operating system that came with the phone from the factory. You may be missing a few things so first thing I would do is to go to settings and click software update. That MAY push the JI6 update that was released late last year to your phone, and with it some of the missing elements that you've mentioned.

I wouldn't worry about it. It was mainly just a GPS "fix". Just chill and wait for the OTA. I haven't seen anyone post anywhere that they've actually gotten it yet, so patience is your best friend right now.

Thanx for the help..it is much appreciated :o

my vibrant is not rooted and I received the recent ota update and just two days ago d/led the 2.2 froyo from minikeis, on my cell i have always had a "no firmware" pop up when i clicked on software update, even before both the updates, still says it now so I don't think you have to worry about that. Although not sure how you could get the first ota updated files. Mini Keis was a snap to d/l, the wait during the Galaxy S splash screen was the most torture wondering if it worked or bricked phone. All seems well so far and mostly pleased by the update

A bricked phone would not show any kind of light on the screen, it would just be dark, as in no power, and nothing anyone could do would change that, hence the title "bricked". So, anytime there is any light, or screen showing, there is hope.
