Root Froyo restore method

Done testing what I was testing, so far no success getting a baseband to stick... time to look in other directions... (the /persist mount point isn't the radio, it is in atleast one other device, but looks like we weren't lucky...)

Just so everybody knows so that it nobody else will be dissappointed by trying what I tried:
1) using fastboot to flash the /persist partition... I get the error that it doesn't exist
2) using a modified recoveryflash.sh to flash /persist with a 2.2 persist... no dice

Also, just so people know, pulling the libril/libreference files from /system/lib on 2.3.3, unyaffing a 2.2 nandroid, and replacing the files I mentioned before results in a bootloop (ironically right at the verizon wireless logo :P ) (i was able to adb wait-for-device/reboot recovery and restore a good backup)

I'm gonna check and make sure the permissions are set right and try again

No dice in fixing permissions (ramdisk should take care of it automatically)
On the plus side, I have a logcat dump from the boot... On the minus side, I have a 69Kb (2200 lines) logcat to go through...

I wish I could help you gents, but I don't even speak your language.

I would kill to go back to 2.2.1. Waaaaay faster and smoother than any of the updates. The only thing I found wrong with it was the non-functional Voicemail shortcut with password in the dialer.

Hhmmm. When my fiances commando was tryn to update to gingerbread, i pulled the update cache to the sdcard to see if there was anything in there usefull to me. Since, were on this topic now, lemme see if there still in my archive...

I was dealing with this on another phone and had no luck as we had created a gingerbread upgrade but no baseband to use it with as it was only good for wifi.

Lemme see if my archive of shenanigans has anything... (code for butt load of android archive files)

As for finding were the radio img is, i thought it was mtd5 as well. Maybe its in hidden or combined with another image and needs split.

Just an fyi, from splitting the boot.img, I'm pretty sure that they use a second stage bootloader in their kernel/ramdisk combo (boot.img) (otherwise I have no way to explain an extra 4mbs in boot.img)

I am a pretty new at droids. I got my casio when they came out and rooted it right away. I did not back up my phone before i removed all the bloatware, and now i can't get the new update. Is there a way to run someone else's back up on my phone to restore it back to factory? I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this.

panicfreek, although i can not help you... you got me thinking. Pax, or rgocal, what if someone has a nandroid of 2.2.1 that only had frozen apps, not deleted on it... think this would get around the deleted/not frozen problem of updating? kinda late to think of this now because if it is successful we'll get pushed the m100 and lose root, but could we call an adb reboot recovery to flash an m080 nandroid since the radio would be updated to 2.3.3?

I did a factory reset after I unrooted thinking that that would let me update. Now I am at the original state less the bloat I had taken off with no way to update. =(

@panicfreek:

Unless you want or need VZW PTT I wouldn't bother trying to update. I needed the PTT for work, so I updated. Wish I had just kept a second phone for PTT because there are some issues with the update. What issues you may ask? First there isn't a root method yet. Other problems include:

Why do I now have two music applications? I don't use my phone for music, it's a phone, I have a radio to listen to music. Even though I don't use it, one of them always seems to be running in the background, called up by something else I'm sure. Seems like one music player would be sufficent, maybe even none with the option to download and install one from the market if so desired.

Why do I now have two video applications from Verizon? I don't use my phone to watch videos, its a phone. I have a TV to watch movies on. These don't seem to run in the background. I've never opened them and don't plan on using them. It would have been nice to have been given the option to download and install from the market if I suddenly needed to watch a movie on the small screen.

There are something like eight or nine other applications on the phone that I will never use. Why am I asked, every day, to update them? VZW Navigation? Never opened it, never will. Bing? On a Google phone? Oh yeah, it wants me to update it too.

Here's what really pisses me off. I have the nifty charging cradle, I really like it. Since I got the phone last year whenever I put the phone into the cradle the screen would light up and I could set the alarm clock, adjust the brightness, use the phone, stuff like that. Now, when I put the phone into the cradle the same screen comes on but it is locked. To do anything, I have to take the phone out of the cradle, unlock it, put it back into the cradle, and then I can work with it. After a short time, the screen locks again. Ruined a very nice feature and made the cradle unusable. There is a guy on the net who fashioned a cradle into a car cradle, I bet he's pissed...
