Help Froyo Update - GPS Broken

Newbie
Stupidly, I installed the Froyo update today. Samsung had been saying (via Twitter) that it was taking so long to get the 2.2 update out because they were performing additional testing. So I assumed there was no risk being an early upgrader.

Everything appeared to work, until I tried using the GPS. I couldn't get a lock at all, and it drained my battery. Google Maps crashed once. I rebooted the phone and still no luck.

Hi Frisco,

Thanks for your suggestion. I just tried following those instructions but no luck. I had tried following similar settings when I had Eclair (back in 2010) with limited success. I couldn't follow step #7 because there was no SkyHook option on my settings.

When I ran the "get position test", it was able to determine position after about 45 seconds.

Then I exited the GPS settings and went to Google Maps. It couldn't find my position even after 1 minute.

I have the same problem.... Eclair JI6 worked (mostly), locking up to 8 satellites, but with Froyo I'm lucky to even see 2 satellites with a clear blue sky. I think I'm gonna dump this POS.

Hi duc916,

After fiddling with the GPS settings, I tried downloading the GPS restore app. This seemed to fix things. I'm not completely sure that it reapply is fixed yet, but I was able to get a lock quickly afterward.

I'll test some more tomorrow.

I would have to say this download worked like a charm. I finally had time to get Froyo installed on my phone but I never tried the GPS with Google Maps until recently. And after a very frustrating morning. Google maps locking up as soon as the GPS kicked on. I found this thread, downloaded the app and went out side. Within seconds it found me AND when I hit the layers button, it didn't sit there and flip me off. It gave me instantly what I wanted. We'll see what happens over time.
