Froyo

Pete's got this version of the file already and is working on rooting it. Sit tight.

the answer to this question decides whether I root today and do a 2.2 ROM or put it off for another day when I have time/desire and just download the "official" 2.2 found here. so I await with much interest. and will wait to move until we know.

So very impressive. I wish I had the skillset to work on this stuff. I'm a software engineer but this stuff definitely is a different world than what I work on. :) The clean 2.2 build that was posted seems to work well for me. I've only had some minor weird issues that clearing the cache seems to have fixed for now. (Exchange email was telling me it couldn't contact the server....cleared the cache, rebooted, all is well again.) But root is something at this point I don't want to give up. It took me long enough to take the plunge and now I'm quite well addicted to it. :D

Agreed - which is why I keep denying the update, even though I am itching to look at hte final compared to the previous verions I ahve been running.

All right so the issue with icons from apps that were moved to SD have been resolved. Just re-add them to the homescreen from the launcher.

But I really don't like the 2.2 messaging app. Any way to get the options from the 2.1 messaging app, i.e., picture not showing up on every single text! and black background.

Not yet - this was just released *today* - you'll need root access to do that, so until it is rooted, not happening. Just be patient.

Its very possible I just never saw this before, as I've only been using Picassa for a couple weeks, but I now have my Picassa picture folders showing up in Gallery. Is that new to 2.2? Or was I just oblivious to it before?

That should have happened in 2.1, but you may have disabled Picasa integration the last time you updated....you can add it for any / all Google accounts on your phone that already have Picasaweb accounts set up.

Thanks for the flash download! Works great now! I love that I'm now finally able to select and copy text in gmail.

:D

I have googled different variations of pete, bugless, beast, bb, etc and cannot find a twitter page that looks like it is actually ever updated by him. Could you possibly post the direct link to his twitter page so that we may be able to keep up on any progress he may or may not be making in rooting Froyo?

Thanks,
Kratos

Twitter / Peter Alfonso: @nkyadav Wish I hadn't fal ...

I follow him and told him about the update and we had a series of tweets back and forth, this being pretty much the last one.

You fixed my no vibration problem. I tried re-adding my exchange account and doesn't like it. I see the phone hitting the Exchange server but its not liking it.

Clear your Exchange app cache, then reboot.

Someone else posted that this fixed his issues.

It cleans out temporary storage. I cleared the entire cache partition when I had my Exchange issue a little while ago, but, you can try clearing just the email cache and see what happens. Reboot after you clear it.

Ok, so the white messages background if anybody can tell me how to get it back to black i'll give you a coke and a quarter

Mine has been doing this since 2.1 (i'm on a rooted 2.2 now) and i love it! It's great to be able to pull up any of my picasa pics of the kids anywhere. The only problem is that, if you don't have an internet connection (like I don't at work) on your phone, you only get the grainy "thumbnail" version if you haven't opened that pic before.

why not switch the Handcent SMS and drop the stock POS messaging app. you can trick Handcent SMS out with colors, bubble colors, fonts, notification icons and sounds and options all on a person by person basis.. Handcent SMS was the first app I ever got for my Droid.

Amen to this suggestion. Just remember to turn notifications OFF in the native messaging POS app else you'll be wondering where the hell all the notifications are coming from. :) Handcent is absolutely awesome.

I tried Handcent SMS for a while but it became really slow after a while so I switched back to the stock messaging app. Any way to solve this on the stock messaging app?

Handcent is easily one of the best apps for Android. I'd pay a few bucks easy for it if I had to and best of all, its free!

As far as the install, went smooth here.

One new thing I noticed is the call log, multiple calls to the same number in a row now queue up and show the number of them next to it and you can tap this "queue of calls" and see each individual one. Kind of cool.

Only problem I had with using handcent is that it kept losing my SMS history... ended up downloading SMS Backup because of it... had the same problem with ChompSMS though too...

Anyway, back to the Froyo discussion..... After rebooting mine for the second time, its running great :D

I don't know if anyone has posted this but the update overclocks to 800 mHz or at least it seems it has for my Droid.
