Thanks for the reply.
One day, ads started popping up on the phone, to a point it was annoying. Could not find the APP responsible so it was factory reset.
The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5 neo.
I have tries several things, followed a few you-tube videos etc.
The phone was setup with my gmail. Before factory reset I changed my password. I know I have the correct one, because I get a gmail on my main PC saying an attempt to login from a Samsung, was it me. I click yes.
When I try to login, it gives me the 'unable to login to device message. 2nd attempt, I get a different message 'oops something went wrong, try another account or try again'.

So now what?
Thank you.

Murray

Was there more than one account on the phone when you reset it?

Before factory reset I changed my password.

This could be problematic. Normally we don't recommend changing passwords within 48 hours of a reset so that everything has a chance to sync up. You might try the old password, but a better option would be a different account. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Google account. If maybe you have a Yahoo account or Microsoft by chance, any account that was on the phone at the time of reset should work.

okay, then, when you reset did you connect to WiFi or have an active sim card?

I get a gmail on my main PC saying an attempt to login from a Samsung, was it me.

You'd get an email saying a new device logged in if the login was successful. If the email truly says "attempted" then it wasn't. You may want to verify the password to your account by logging into https://myaccount.google.com/security and clicking the password link.

My mistake. This is what it said, not attempt.
Your Google Account was just signed in to from a new Galaxy S5 Neo device. You're getting this email to make sure it was you.
So I go through process to verify. Still cant login.

Here are screen grabs. 1st time I try, then 2nd time.

I did that now. Logged out of gmail on PC. Factory reset, tried and it did not work. I did get an email on my pc, to say a samsung just tried to login. Attached screenshot.
I tried a different email address (one I know works on my pc) then when I clicked next, if gave an error, dies not recognize that email. So at least we know it recognizes the email. And logging back in on my pc confirms I have the correct password.

What email app are you using?

Also maybe try a hard reset instead. This is usually some combo of power and volume buttons. It's supposed to be a deeper wipe than a factory reset.

Email app? Well there was a google icon and a gmail icon on the phone.
When I factory reset, that is what I do, with power off, I hold Volume up, power and the Home button.
Watch the first 20 seconds of this video, it is what I do. Also, I do not know of any other way to reset it.

Factory reset is done within the phone's settings. A factory reset does not trip FRP. A hard reset does trip FRP.

I think your phone is just too old now....... is my opinion on why you are having trouble with your email. I bet if you have a much newer phone, you will not be having this issue.

And just to be sure, the Gmail app and all Google apps are all updated, correct?
