Help Frustrated with various issues

I have had my Droid x2 since August. I have had to get a new two weeks after I got the first one because of technical problems inside the phone.

I'm still frustrated with my phone. Am I expecting to much from it? I admit I do not know all the ins & outs of it yet. I don't have the time to fiddle around with it and most people I know do not have this brand of phone.

I'm having problems with:
camera is slow and locks up.
Keyboard is slow and locks up.
Sometimes my 3G doesn't work.
When I turn the phone on some apps do not work.
Did I mention I do not like the on screen keyboard?
Battery doesn't last more then 6 hrs.
Keep getting spam text from android market.
Android market doesn't always work.

What I do:
Take battery out and reinsert.
Turn it off at night.
Shut down apps that are running that shouldn't be
Uninstall apps that seem to be a problem
run security program
turn phone off for long periods of time.

I have juice defender app and a go launcher. Would these run my phone down?
I do have some music downloaded, but not much.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Beth

if you're getting spam messages, you probably have an mp3 downloader app. Thats probably the #1 cause of spam messages. If you are having that many problems with the phone, you probably should just factory reset the device and start over. If the battery doesnt last longer than 6 hours, then you're phone is never going to sleep (something is keeping it awake). Most likely, you have an app on the phone that keeps it from sleeping, which kills the battery.

Go Launcher has been known to run the battery down faster than other launchers but not enough to kill it in 6 hours.

Juice Defender is likely the cause of your 3G problems since it shuts off data in order to conserve battery. This is likely the cause of your market not working, as well. If you dont have data, the market will not load.

As I said, since you have a lot of problems with your phone, reset it and load apps one at a time....testing the phone in between each install.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. It might help us if we get a little bit more detail. How often this happens, if it began after downloading a certain app, etc.

Quick heads up - this thread might get moved to the section specific to your phone.

My 2 cents:

a) Slow apps - you said you shut down apps that shouldn't be running. Are there any repeating offenders? What usually seems to be using up your CPU? You can use the in-built app to do a quick check.
b) Locking up - does it just say loading and then force close? What happens?
c) Keyboard - generally I think your keyboard, etc. is all slow because of the same underlying cause...which we have to isolate.
d) Battery - have you done a check to see what's using your battery? i.e. display...
e) 3g signal - this...might not be a problem with the phone, it may depend the signal at your specific location
f) ___ doesn't work - what happens? Does it never open? Does it open and force close?
g) Try temporarily disabling your security app, and just do some basic things to see if it helps. I've had this happen before.
h) Spam texts - are you sure they're from the market? What do they say? It may depend on certain apps you downloaded, etc.

Try running a factory reset if all else fails. Just remember to backup any files you may have.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response!
I wasn't sure where to post, I'm apologize for posting in the wrong forum.
I will try to do the factory reset.

) Slow apps - Are there any repeating offenders? Yes, some are apps that are factory set, that I do not use What usually seems to be using up your CPU? Lookout, Settings (does it need to be constantly running?) IM, quick contact, google services
b) Locking up - the camera goes black is if it is going to camera mode or in camera mode, it just stops working.
c) Keyboard - the keyboard will lock and remain on the screen. I have to take battery out to reset.
d) Battery - yes I have. I believe that i have it set to turn display off after certain time, etc.
e) 3g signal - ok
f) ___ doesn't work -
g) Try temporarily disabling your security app, and just do some basic things to see if it helps. I've had this happen before.
h) Spam texts - I assumed it was from market because it says better android apps from Market

I'm not 100% sure if your particular phone will differ, as I'm on a stock android phone. For me it's via settings --> privacy --> factory data reset.

- For the camera, are you using the default camera app, or a third party one? I've never come across the stock camera crashing too much...

- You said you did check the battery, is there something other than display which has excessive consumption?

- Quick note about JuiceDefender. As a poster above noted, it disables your 3g when you turn off the screen. I've encountered a glitch with the default email app that continues to try and refresh (regardless of the check frequency you set) when there is no data/wifi connection, and drains the battery rapidly.

Hopefully the factory reset will help. Good luck! :)

if you have your contacts / schedule synced with google cloud services. then they will never be erased .. unintentionally.

they automatically get re-synced down to your phone.. if they get lost.

You posted in a fine area for Android device issues, the Android Lounge. :)

The specific device area can be better for responses tailored to the X2, though, so your thread has been moved to the X2 forum and tagged with the "Support" prefix for you, mbmast. ;)

Well, I reset phone to factory settings. The phone has been on for about 4hrs and battery is half dead and still having problems with basic camera. Should I talk with the store where I purchased the phone or do directly to Verizon?
Thanks,
Beth

1. Camera - Are you up todate with your OS? The last update or 2 fixed my camera issues (I was having the same ones you were)
2. Keyboard - Go to apps, and clear the cashe of the keyboard app. Also the update helped. I still am not a huge fan of it, I like better keyboard 8, or go keyboard better...both are free.
3. 3G - update helped some. Also, turn airplane mode on, then back off, that has helped me regain 3g.
4. Battery - something is amiss. I get 18 hours. I did buy the slighty better extended battery. The motorola BHX6. I highly recommend it. It just goes right in. Also your screen should almost ALWAYS be draining your battery most. If its not, somethings up. What the % use of the things using your battery?
5. Are the spam txt coming with a green + symbol? if so, they are from verizon and cant be stopped as far as I know.
6. The last update should download the newest market place.

Hope this helps.

1. Camera - Are you up to date with your OS? Honestly? I have no idea! What does OS mean? Stupid question I know. :)
2. Keyboard - Go to apps, and clear the cashe of the keyboard app. Also the update helped. I still am not a huge fan of it, I like better keyboard 8, or go keyboard better...both are free. I will clear cache & check out the apps
3. 3G - update helped some. Also, turn airplane mode on, then back off, that has helped me regain 3g. I will remember that for next time

phone idle is 56%
Display is 27%
Cell Standby is 11%
is that what you guys are asking for?
5. Are the spam txt coming with a green + symbol? if so, they are from verizon and cant be stopped as far as I know. YES, it's a green + symbol. Bummer.
6. The last update should download the newest market place. How do I know if I have the latest update?

FWIW:

I had to return my X2 after about 3 months for a refurbished replacement. The phone was working flawlessly until all of a sudden one day when I noticed poor battery life. From that point on it was 4-5 recharges each day, all of a sudden, out of nowhere. The phone was also very warm to the touch. I went to the VZ store where I bought it and they tested it and said there was nothing wrong with it. It continued to give me battery charge problems so I contacted VZ tech support. They reset the phone. They sent me a new battery. I cleared out every app I had, all to no avail.
Finally they gave up and sent me a new (refurbished) phone. So far all is OK, but there was a definite problem that they couldn't address with my original phone. Fortunately I was under warranty. I hope you are.

OS = Operating System, commonly known on smartphones as ROM. You should be at Android 2.3.4. You can check under Settings > About Phone. You can also tap system updates there to check.

There are plenty of keyboards on the market.

I've had a few successes with spam texts by replying with Quit, Stop, Unsubscribe, or No.

As for the Market, just open the app, hit the menu button, go into settings, and scroll to the bottom. I believe the newest build version is 3.3.1.1.
