Root Full MR2 update

no. flash the whole mr2 over a rooted phone and you will lose root(and possibly become a brick ) but flashing only the radio will not take away root or brick you.

Yeah I read the part about not flashing the ruu on a rooted phone. Thanks a bunch Scotty you have been a huge help in my transition to the bolt.

MR2 might get pulled. We'll know more tomorrow. I would hold off at this point, but then again I'm using the original radio with CM7.

Can anyone running this shed some light as to whether or not Netflix works on this build?

I am running this on the Perfect Storm 1.5 and it seems to work fine. Quick GPS fix. I can get Netflix to do everything except play a movie. The minute I go to play, it "downloads" and the movie acts like its going to start, but then goes back to the Netflix menus.

So Netflix is acting just the same

Try dl'ing this: xda-developers - View Single Post - Netflix.

I had a different known issues that when starting NF it would request to DL a newer version and not open. Once I installed this on top of the existing .apk it worked... now it's smooth as a babies butt. Keep in mind I'm on BAMF's GingerMIX running the new MR2. So if it still doesn't work... this is the reason why.

By the way... IMO's new lean 3.01 kernel released today... is SMOKEN!.

And yes... I fully expect my phone to be bricked in the morning... lol.

Flashed the leaked MR2 on Friday. No random reboots. GPS locks in less than 3-5 seconds. Battery life appears to be better. 3G signal strengths OK, I guess. I'm liking it!

Follow up

I installed OEM ruu not rooted it was a liitle glichy the second day but i did a couple of factory reset reformattted my SD card everyting works perfect

FAst smooth battery seems better gps is now dead on and fast i loaded all my app 42 to be exact no issues.

The only thing i miss is being rooted

I chose to do stock no root because i wanted this firmware to be completely wriitten by the MAnufacturuer less chance of glitches

thereare some who have issues with the rooted versions of this release.

Now if they would just officiallyrelease it then devswill release the root method which i am sure they are waitng for the release so they won't plug the whole...

So far this update did fix somethings, but can verizon stop putting all their vcast crap every where on the thunderbolt. There is no reason why I should be seeing vcast music add in HTC music app. Lucky I used the rooted plain jane when trying this update. I switched to flyweight just to get rid of it. But on other notes.

GPS- Definately better.
GPS Widget- Anyway to get rid of stupid Standalone GPS Service message?
Reboots- Seems fixed but I only had my phone reboot once.
Battery on reboot- Battery doesn't seem to drop 5-10% when manually rebooting my phone.
3G/LTE Switch - It's a step in the right direction but would like a widget to make it even easier.

Did anyone try the rooted ROM's? Or just the stock one?

Just so I'm straight, the rooted ROM's already have the radio, ROM, kernel and what not's included, right? Like the Perfect Storm ROM?

EDIT: Nevermind, just found my answer from Scotty85 post. I obviously need to do more reading as I'm coming from an X.

Things were so much easier with the X, I'm thinking about selling my TB and getting another X off craigslist......................

Thanks but no go. Appreciate the thought.

I know what you mean as the language and hoops are crazy to jump through, BUT I am really starting to dig this phone. I came from an X myself and gave up on this thing once already, but know that I'm back on it, I'm really starting to love it. Just a matter of reading more and getting used to something new.

I still don't get the kernel thing even though its similar to the X. They are about as common as popcorn over here. Crazy. But I still don't get it or which one can be used with what or when or why. But I really think you will enjoy this phone once you get the hang of it.

That's cause you couldn't really change anything on the X. ;) with the locked bootloader you were stuck with the stock kernel

I took the plunge and installed the update. I am non-rooted (stock). It seems like everything worked fine except for the gps locking. Nothing is different there. I can't get it to lock in. It keeps searching for GPS signal. Any ideas on what is going on?

It's really not that complicated when you break it down. There are gingerbread kernels, cm7 kernels and froyo kernels.
Some are just fancier than others lol.

lol, that is right... you dont really have to know alot about kernels,my point was simply what with an unlocked bootloader you can change them so we have a much bigger variety of roms.

with the stock kernel you a custom rom is limited in what it can change.

Well in that case, I better just do it to say I've done it at the very least! :)

Okay, so I downloaded and flashed the "lean" Sense - All Froyo Rom kernel from:

[Kernel] [froyo] leanKernel: minimalistic kernel, v2.6.0 sense 6/5/11 - xda-developers

and my phone stopped working and my Gmail was all messed up (syncs with calendar, mail, tasks). I could dial out while the phone was showing signal, but it would randomly connect and when it did, neither party could hear each other. I went to a nandroid backup before the flash and my gmail is still a little goofy, but better.

I am running the Perfect Storm 1.5 with MR2. Is the kernel not compatible with this radio? Or is it the ROM? Or the kernel?

Older froyo kernels will not work on mr2 Roms. In fact last time i checked there were no custom kernels for the mr2 Roms.

I would refash the rom w/o wiping.

I am good to go again after the restore and a cache clear on gmail. Appears to be syncing again okay and phone works.

The other crazy part is that I am in a 4G area and coverage is spotty at best. 4G problem or MR2 radio?
