Fun things to do in DC or VA?

So my wife and I are flying into DC next month, renting a car, and driving down to Williamsburg. Are there any locals from around there that have some good suggestions for fun activities, restaurants, and bars? We will be in that area for around a week and the only thing we have planned is to visit Busch Gardens.

I've been on the east coast a few times, but that was only in the NY and NJ areas.

I've only been to DC so the usual sight seeing of White House, Lincoln Memorial, etc is a must. If your into mountain biking VA has allot of trails for that.

I think the national monuments are still closed because of the sequester.
