Root funny story...need help unrooting without using the volume button

hehe, ok so let me start out by saying this forum is awesome! I have been using this forum for information since I bought my original droid about a year and a half ago. Anyways, bought the thunderbolt since day one and loved it with a few road bumps along the way. Finally rooted my phone last Saturday just to play around with it with the new process.

I have never asked a question on this forum before because usually someone else asked it. I usually search the entire site

why do you have to send back to get a new one? no matter what the story is, you're going to have to dish out the deductible.

Just tell them the story that the phone fell through crack of elevator and you cant get to it. they will send a replacement.

You can get it [ROM]RUU_Mecha_GINGERBREAD_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.10.605.1_Rad io_0.01.78.0802w_3_NV_8K_1.41 - xda-developers it is a program that runs on your computer that will update your phone Rom Update Utility I think. It should get you back at least to a leak you could have installed if you were stock

Should be able to use one of these. The one at the very bottom is the MR1 OTA RUU

[RUU] All known Mecha RUUs & OTAs (signed only) 5/16/2011 - xda-developers

Those are zip files I belive they would need to be flashed in hboot, without access to the volume keys hboot would not be something you could get to...perhaps via ADB you could but scotty will need to chime in on that

yes, this is the tpye of file im refering to,but i dont think id recceomend using the leak GB RUU to return to verizon. while it can be applied by nonrooted, stock phones,im not sure if it is "legal" to have done this(read:voiding your warranty)

exactly. all the files in the link above are PG05IMG files and need to be flashed in hboot. the absolute safest thing would be to download the 1.12.605.6 PG05IMG(i know it wont cause a security warning) then run any of the other utilitys. at the step before you chose to flash the rom ,youd find "rom.zip" in a temp file that the installer created, then replace it with the 1.12.605.6 PG05IMG renamed to "rom.zip",then continue running the installer.

i searched for a .exe file of 1.12.605.6 and was unforutnately unable to find one. :(

there are mr1,mr2,and a couple other versions that im reluctant to recomend.

assuming you are running a stock, rooted mr2(firmware 1.70.605.0) i think it would be safe to run that one. im afraid mr1,or one of the others may casue a security warning that may be difficult or impossible to recover from with no volume rocker.

you need to be very careful when flashing RUUs that will overwrite the bootloader,as some when flashed overtop of custom firmware will become confused and lock the phone down with the security warning

heres a little info on running the .exe RUU file:
http://www.htc.com/uploadedFiles/US/Support/Detailed+RUU+Instructions+03302009.pdf

and you can download the mr2 .exe from here:
[ROM]RUU_Mecha_S_VERIZON_WWE_1.70.605.0_Radio_0.01.69.0 625r_NV_8K_1.41_9K_1.64 - xda-developers

basically all you do is downlad the file, then click it. it will run,and then just follow the prompts. make sure youre battery is close to 100% charged before running it.

If VZW agrees to exchange it I kinda doubt it will matter if you are rooted as it isn't a warranty thing. They would just be doing it for customer service.

it may also give him a security warning if he flashes it overtop of an eng 1.04.2000 hboot. i dont think it will, but ive not done it and dont know for sure

ive recceomended what i thot was the safest, tho other options may work as well.

Sorry it took me a while, I work two jobs so I didn't have enough time to do this until now...and IT WORKED!!! Thanks to everyone for their help...especially scotty85! What I did was a factory reset, install HTC sync and ran the RUU from the link...worked like a charm!

Thanks again to everybody, once again this forum doesn't let me down!
