Root Future rooting of the Photon 4G

Engineering roms are a treasure trove of secret information, and one was used to root the original Evo - precisely why they wanted that phone back.

Anyway, I'm pulling for you!

Well hopefully this thing can get rooted pretty soon. I am loving my 3vo and that isn't going anywhere but I am really in the need for a gsm option. This is one of the reasons it was so hard to get rid of my htc tp2. I do a lot of traveling and that tp2 came handy countless times. I almost opened an att account the other day but then I realized that I could just add a line with sprint to get the photon, get it unlocked so I can use any sim and that would be a lot cheaper than having a separate account with someone else. So here is to hoping that it gets rooted fairly quickly.

Pretty sad this puppy won't be unlocked. I may buy it anyway tomorrow if Best Buy has it. If it's not unlocked by the time the Galaxy comes out i'm jumping over to Sammy.

Motorola Photon 4G just went on sale today, I picked one up as soon as the store opened. Such a sweet phone, but I would like to root it eventually. I'm open to test any root stuff anyone can recommend.

Confirmed, bloatware apps can be uninstalled. I just uninstalled the stupid Nascar app that Sprint puts on there. *thumbsup for Sprint*

When I turn the phone on while holding power and up I get a prompt that says "Starting RSD protocol support" but nothing happens. BUT if I boot it up while pressing down and power I can scroll through many prompts, they say : Fastboot, NvFlash, BP HW Bypass RSD, BP HW Bypass QC DLOAD, BP HW Diag & Boot AP, BP HW Bypass BP Only, BP SW Bypass RSD, Android Recovery, Boot Android (No BP), Device UID, console=ttyS0,115200n8, Early USB Enumeration, BP Tools, RSD. That's a hell of a lot of options for a locked device so I think its free as a bird.
i have the same laundry list of options on my MoPho...

Odd, I mis-read shawheims post and did Power + Volume Down and I got a "Fastboot" message on the screen, but it hasn't moved from that spot.

So I then push the volume up button I get
"Starting Fastboot protocol support" message

but no matter what I do, it stays at that so i have to take out the battery.

But if do what he wrote exactly, I get those options as well.
Ironically that also happens with the Atrix.

interesting read...might inspire me to sideload sbf to try and unlock the bootloader

yup that was me...if i can get this bootloader unlocked you'll love my clean photon roms too!

Well, like I said in my previous post I am loving my 3vo but I am in desperate need of a world phone(missing my tp2 for that one feature) but once this gets rooted I will definitely add another line to get this for sure. Personally I don't like motorola phones but this is starting to grow on me a little.

I went ahead and bought it today. It's pretty snappy. Going to give it a go for the 30 day return policy and see how much I like. Installed launcher pro immediately.

Just wish they unlocked the bootloader. I want some roms...

Is anyone making any noise over @ xda? I requested the photon forums but no such luck yet.

There are currently 6 threads requesting Photon sub-forum...not to mention my own attempt at humor. Think president's speech from Independence Day.

Yeah...I went there.

I've posted in all of them for a while now and finally a staff member has seen one of the threads, but I am not letting up. Its beyond being ironic, its downright stupid how they choose forums for phones. Phones that are not even out yet. Give me a break. I'll probably get banned from there at the rate this is going.

Edit: I emailed the admin directly about it, hopefully he gets it done.

Uh, didn't Motorola announce that the bootloader would be unlocked? The same problem as the Atrix, though - because of Webtop they encrypted the partition which can bork up some pretty low-level stuff.

Not exactly. What Motorola said is that later in 2011, subject to approval for each specific device by the carrier, they will provide a method to unlock the bootloader.
