G Mail app Can I stop push notifications

Just got my Galaxy S3 (ATT)
And set up the G Mail app and it works great, TOO great
as in waking me up in the middle of the night because Bike Nashbar is having a sale.
I want my messenger notifications to push and sound.
But NOT my mail, I will just load it when I'm ready to read it.
Do I have to un install the G Mail app, and just run on a browser?
or can I configure it to NOT push?

So you would like your gmail to sync only when you manually sync it?

I want to not get woken up, is there a way to STOP notifications on G Mail, but KEEP receiving, Text message notifications.
I was able to stop Facebook from notifying.

I would surmise going into menu/settings/accounts (google)/click on your email account/uncheck the gmail box.

You can turn notifications off within the G-Mail app itself. Open G-Mail and hit the Menu soft key and then Settings. Select your e-mail address and in the next window uncheck Notifications.

Go to MENU/SETTINGS/DEVICE/BLOCKING MODE & from there you can customize your notification times to have "quiet hours",if desired.
