Help G03cc ?

Hi,
New here.
I bought an unlocked and unbranded Hero from a seller in China:eek:. It works well as a phone and the WiFi works alright. However the GPS does not seem to work and the Model number and the software version number have me confused.
The model number shows as "G03CC" and the software version as "05020006_76A701. I can't seem to find anything about this anywhere. I would love for the GPS to work and I would like to be able to root it so I can get a little more out of it.
Any help or nudges in the right direction greatly appreciated
 
Ah, well that solves one mystery. I always wondered why a lot of the cases/accessories for the hero on eBay were for a 'G3'.

Can you tell me your build number? That's the all important one.

Not quite sure where to find the build number. It is labeled HTC on the bezel and back cover. On the "About Phone" page the model number shows as G03CC and version information as 05020006_76A701. There is no other information on that page. The S/N is HT03GL902414 and the P/N is 99HHM061-00 C there is also a marking of Hero100 on the same label as the serial and part numbers. When I try to register it on the HTC US site I get an error of serial number not recognized.

The build number should be in the About Phone section too (maybe in a sub menu somewhere). I mean, I could try and help you root it without knowing the build number, but it would make life easier.

I'm not sure why the GPS isn't working though. I also don't know whether putting on new firmware would fix it.

And it's always worth asking, does your hero look like the one on the right in this picture?
 
Fair enough with the GPS. I really have not played with it enough to know that it is not my error there. But I would like to be able to root it.
 
Got it. I had to download a System info app to get it. I was getting a little worried about the OS. I feel better now.
