Help G3 Quiet Mode

Lurker
Hi, I just recently transitioned from the Note 3 to the LG G3 & find the phone to be an incredible upgrade!!
I got used to the "Blocking Mode" feature on the Samsung phone & find the similar feature "Quiet Mode" on the LG phone to be very lacking. On the Samsung phone I could activate the blocking mode & still receive phone calls from predefined numbers. The LG phone seems to offer a similar arrangement whereby phone calls from specific numbers could be allowed but the quiet mode feature works by putting the phone either in "Silent or Vibrate Only" modes & thus with the "Quiet Mode" activated even though it allows the call to go through but I can't respond to it as the phone is Silent or on Vibrate while I sleep.

This seems like a big oversight whereby the whole purpose of allowing phone calls is defeated!!

Can anyone please advise what to do or if I am doing something wrong??

Thanks

iOS really got the whole DND/Quite Mode right. It works exactly as described and in conjunction with your contacts.

I played with quiet mode today and it seems its all on or all off. The only flexibility you have is choosing a txt msg to send the callers who are rejected.

I'm still installing apps as I just got my g3 today but I'm going to play with it more later as I have a couple of numbers that I'd like to go through in quiet mode as well.

Just go to quiet mode and click incoming call settings . In there you can select contacts that will still come through if its on. It works perfectly and coming from an s3 I like it better than blocking mode and the stupid icon that would never go away.

Unfortunately for me it does not work that way and even though the phone shows a call coming in but it is silenced due to it being on Silent mode!

Did you add the contact to the allowed contacts? That works perfectly for me.

I'm having the exact same problem, phone in quiet mode, set my girlfriends mobile in allowed contacts and it rings once (silently though) and that's it, it just appears as a missed call, sound settings in quiet mode are vibrate only or silent. Bit of a useless addition if this is how it works, although it does silence that damn battery full notification so that's a good thing I suppose

Alternatively, you can use a 3rd party app. While I realize there may be objections to using a 3rd party app to do what the OS should do and/or that LG's implementation of the OS should do, but I am just giving an alternative.

There are several 3rd party profile apps available in the Play Store. However, you have to be careful to choose one that supports unlinking of ringtones and notifications (affects ICS and JB). There are two that I know of offhand, SmartSoundProfiles and Sound Profile. Both work the same way, basically you set up a Night Profile (notifications off, ringtones on) and set call exceptions (contacts, preferred contacts/whitelist, blocked callers/blacklist, unknown numbers, etc.), and then enable that Night profile in a scheduler (e.g. 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM). These profile apps do much more than just act as a quiet mode / night mode -- you can schedule it to go to Vibrate or Low Sound during work hours, etc.

Both have ad supported free versions with little to no limitations that I can tell; so if Quiet Mode is not working for you and you have tried everything, give one of these a shot (nothing to lose).

But not matter which app you choose, again, make sure it SPECIFICALLY supports unlinking of ringtones and notifications (both of these do) or you may be disappointed or find it does not work as you might expect.
