Root Galaxy Grand Prime Won't Root

jahocz

Lurker
just got a galaxy grand prime. wasn't the latest greatest thing, which is what I wanted.... anyways it came loaded with the DT Ignite and it's just eating my data up..... i've tried to root it several different ways, each time it fails.. the phone is G530R4 and is running android 5.1.1

everything i've seen out there for rooting says the files are specifically for G530H models..

what's the deal with my G530R4

I have, and I'm thinking jahocz has also. That's why I'm asking. Can't seem to find out what the difference is between the G530H and G530RA either. Googling 'root G530RA' gets you nothing but options such as you posted for the G530H, which does not work. Frustrating...

If you don't want to wait for a better option, there are the one click pc root programs. The two I'm familiar with are Kingo Root and Root Genius. Both install their on superuser and are a beast to replace with something else. I haven't found anything that Root Genius can't root. It's best to wait for a root and custom recovery method but some devices don't have that option. I do know from running OS Monitor app that King User connected to servers in China a few times a day. What data was transferred is a good question. They are a option.

I tried Root Genius... 3 times. Chalk the SM-G530RA to one it can't root.
Giving Kingo a try... thanks for the info Jfalls63

Guess it's not the jack hammer it used to be. At least you won't have to deal with Kinguser. Kingo's superuser I know how to replace with SuperSu.

There's a thread on XDA for the "Trap kernel" different people have had success with different Galaxy Grand Prime models. I would post your question on that thread maybe someone can confirm or deny it working for that model.
