Help Galaxy Nexus Assorted Problems

I have some problems with my Galaxy Nexus, all of which seem related.

First, my phone gets really hot, particularly by the front camera. What's weird is that the phone is either just texting or idle in my pocket. I think its location services - I've sometimes found three maps processes running at one time.

It could also be my phone jumping towers, losing signal, and jumping between 3G and HSPA+.

My question is multi parted: What is causing this heat? Why does my phone keep jumping between towers and data connections? And can I disable Maps and all other location services without impacting my phone's ability to find a cellular signal?

You should be able to disable GPS by going to Settings > Location > Use GPS Satellites.
I'm going to move this thread to your devices forum. :)

EDIT: Looks like someone else already moved it. Thanks. ;)

Location services should not be causing power/heat issues especially when you are not using them unless you have some very odd apps that do continuous location checking. Check the battery usage statistics in the phones settings to see if something is using an unusual amount of power.

GPS uses no power if you are not using it. If you do not see the round GPS icon in the notification bar, the radio is not on and it is not using power. I leave it enabled at all times and get over 20 hours of battery usage between charges with moderate phone use. No heating issues either.

If you are having problems, the best thing to do is uninstall everything and add an item at a time until you determine the bad application causing the problem.

Could Google services like NetworkLocationService or Google Messaging service be causing my problems? I just have some common apps installed, like FB, FB messenger, and Dropbox. FB is set to never refresh.

Also, Google Services and Android OS are the only processes using more background data than foreground data.

I just figured out what was wrong. Disable "Force Hardware Acceleration" and the problem disappears. Actually, all three of them.

I am to having the same problem. When the phone is in my pocket it gets extremely hot. Yesterday I went to my cousins graduation and notice that heat. I decidied to turn off wifi and 3G network and the heat went away. Why is this phone doing this. My wife has the Galaxy S2 and she had 3G and wifi I decided to put it in my pocket and the phone did not get hot at all. I got the Galaxy Nexus in mid Apr and it has always run hot inside my pockets. I do not have the LTE/CDMA turn on because we do not have LTE service in Texas, YET.

Thank you

I'm having this same problem, and I just assumed it was because I have a really bad signal at work (in the middle of a large building), and it was boosting power to try to get a better signal. But I want to try your fix..... where is the hardware acceleration setting?

Do you guys mean Force CPU rendering (Use 2d hardware acceleration in applications ?
That's the only thing I can see with the word acceleration

So I never thought it would happen to me but I dropped my phone in the toilet! Luckily it was not filled with anything but water. It was my wallet case. Took it out dried it off and restarted fine. Realized almost immediately that it was not able to play audio (streaming music, audio files, youtube) and the earpiece didn't have anything coming through on phone calls. Notification sounds, alarm, speakerphone, and head phones all work (even with before mentioned audio, youtube, etc.) Did a little digging maybe it is stuck in headphone mode. Sitting in rice now. Also I'm on VZW with insurance will they send me a new phone? I'm rooted. . .am I in deep doo doo? (Remember. . .the toilet was empty)

tl,dr Galaxy Nexus fell in toilet having sound issues with ear piece and sound. It is sitting in rice right now. THanks for any and all help.
