Galaxy Nexus Experience, So Far

Lurker
I just wanted to know how people like their galaxy nexus so far. Is it lighting fast and smooth? Is the multitasking feature fast, because the multitasking feature isn't very fast sometimes on my tab 10.1? Does the battery last a full day? Do past iPhone users like the galaxy nexus a lot better? Lastly, if you had a nexus s, how much better is the galaxy nexus?

I walked into a Verizon store today and one of the reps tried to sell me a razr over the nexus and one of his points was the improved megapixels, I laughed at him and walked out. This proves Verizon's plan of delaying the inevitable.

So far my Nexus has been quick and smooth, there a few issues though.. You cant connect as mass storage device which is a pain. Cant get my emails to stay on the thing and there is an annoying judder when you open the apps.
All except the mass storage I imagine will be fixed soon.

On the plus side the rest of the office is all s2 or Iphone4(s) and they have all conceeded the nexus is superior....!

Had one for a few days now and really enjoying it. Previously had HTC Desire (which i loved) and coming from that this fast and smooth.
Screen is a joy. Camera is much faster which is great. Keyboard big improvement (its replaced swiftkey, which was my goto keyboard). Got a few issues with some sketching/drawing apps, but i assume thats to do with ics software changes.
Not having any issues with emails (both personal gmail and a work email account).
Overall i'm a very happy with it and glad i waited for this rather than getting a galaxy s2.

Love it.

The screen is gorgeous.
The camera is way better than reviews seem to say. In low light conditions it's insane how much it picks up and it so clear. Remember to tap to focus if it comes out blurry. Shutter speed is so quick i end up taking a million photos.

Overall speed is brilliant, multitasking is smooth. New keyboard is good (though i've hit the home button quite a bit whilst going for space.... which can be annoying) and the spell check is much better on it
Being able to drag and drop icons in to groups is pretty cool (even in the 'dashboard' on the homescreen).

Only downside is battery. I find it dies far too quickly when in use. Stand by feels like it could last forever but as soon as that displays on it dives :(
Probably just expected too much, but i'll give it time and see how it goes.

Came from a Desire and I loved that, but this, this is something else. So far sticking to stock on everything, but can't wait for some tweaks to really take it the next level (power shortcuts in notification bar, Paul@Modaco's menu and search button additions for starts).

Whats the screen like in direct sunlight...........this was the main reason I got rid of my Nexus One as the screen was unreadable outside in direct sunlight

I am very much looking forward to this phone. I have an HTC Incredible on my Verizon personal phone and an HTC Evo 4G for my Sprint work phone. I hate Sprint but also hate carrying 2 phones. Right now I forward my texts and calls from my personal phone to my work one. As soon as I get my new phone I will reverse that.

I was leaning towards the Rezound until I started seeing more and more reviews about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The things I don't like about the Rezound (thickness, bloatware, battery) have kept me on the fence. The Nexus isn't perfect (camera isn't as good and the build seems cheap). I also wasn't crazy about the size, but the more I compare it to my Evo and the other phones...I don't think the size is going to be that much of a difference.

I ruled out the Razr a while ago due to no removable battery. No LTE device is going to be great when it comes to the battery, and having a spare battery on hand is a great feature that the Rezound and Galaxy Nexus will have. I still like my HTC phones and I like the Sense interface...although it's not as snappy as I'd like. I think in the end, the Galaxy Nexus is just more advanced and ready for the future.

I really hope we find out today that the phone is in fact coming out on the 8th of Dec.

I thought you COULD drag and drop files from your PC to nexus? What happened?

The Galaxy Nexus no longer supports UMS, as all the internal storage is 1 partition, unlike the Nexus S, which had 2.

UMS requires that Android relinquish control of the partition to the computer where it's mounted.

The new methods of mounting are MTP and PTP, and they work around this limitation. In fact, they are much newer and better than UMS, just other OS's besides Windows do not seem to have very good support.

And on topic, I am enjoying my Nexus very much. The multitasking menu is significantly faster than on my Xoom. Entering and switching between apps is seemless. The camera quality is the best I've owned, though admittedly, I've never tried the IP4S or SGS2.

Time will tell with battery life. I can assure you custom ROMs and kernels will allay many of the existing issues with the phone.

Oh yeah, and the screen is GORGEOUS!

Good to see you around. Saw some of your tweets lately. Do you have any idea how development will run with the different radios (GSM/LTE)? Looking forward to anything you can get done for this "beast" of a phone. :D

How is MTP better?

It is far slower- especially with smaller files like images and small data related files if you want to back your internal memory up. MTP is designed for media, so has issues with certain files.

All HC devices also use MTP, since the internal is one partition for apps and media, but most also have micro sd slots and USB host options. Sadly, the micro sd cards and USB are treated like MTP locations as well.

MTP has been plenty fast for me, but no UMS to compare it with.

Dan Morrill, an engineer at Android, has stated that ICS will support UMS on devices with removable storage.

Anyways, I get that the lack of UMS stinks, but I explained why it couldn't be implemented on the Galaxy Nexus. If you root it however, dual mount SD (app) should solve those woes :-)

I imagine it won't be too different from the Nexus S 3/4G right now. Kernels and ROMs should be able to support both devices fairly easily.

Good points.
