Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SIII???

which phone is better?

S3 seems to have better specs

but nexus will receieve the jelly bean update? not sure if S3 will
 
Well, S3 will certainly recieve Jelly Bean, the only question is when. I kind of doubt any US carrier version will see it this year if you are going to wait for the OTA though.

I will be honest, the S3 is not overwhelming for me, I think the announcement of Jelly Bean highlights the advantages of the Galaxy Nexus, that specs just can't do justice.
 
I'm still going with a Galaxy Nexus. I am fed up with skins and I see rooting and custom ROMs as something that you do once your warranty has expired, or when the phone becomes unusably slow/short of memory.

Jelly Bean will give it a real boost. I doubt the GSiii will get that until next year.

I had a Galaxy Nexus for temporarily and loved it, and the user interface design is very pure and consistent somehow.

The advantages of the GSiii will be raw speed (would be interesting to see the comparison after the GN gets Jellybean, but the GN is pretty quick anyway), plus a few random bits and pieces like Kies, built in Swype, and that feature where the screen doesn't blank while you're looking at it. I can live without these.
 
I'm considering either a galaxy s3 or galaxy nexus and the deciding factor is their gaming performance so which one is better?
 
Hey Thorn93, I imagine the GS3 will be a better gamer based on the CPU/GPU and extra GB of RAM...
 
Time to upgrade from my original HTC Droid Incredible.

I know either way, the Nexus and S3 are both going to be great, but hoping you can help me make the decision.

Nexus:
-Better updates (Jelly Bean any day now)
-Stock Android


S3
-Better hardware?
-removable storage

What else?

About me: I am a heavy user, travel frequently and swap out batteries if I run out of juice. Storage isn't a huge issue but always nice to have for videos, music, podcasts, and stuff taken from camera.

What would you pick today?
 
S3. Hardware gap is too much between the Nexus in my opinion. S3 will definitely get Jellybean at some point or another. The question will come up, in 6 months or so, will the S3 get the next iteration of Android (KLP?) vs if the Nexus will as well.

Agreed. The Nexus is somewhat equivalent to the SII performance wise with a few changes here and there. It would only make sense to get the S3.

I'm sure there will also be a sizable rooting and ROM community just like the SII which will allow it to get Jelly Bean even sooner and even stock if you dislike TouchWiz (I think that's what Samsung uses).

I have been torn between pure google and potentially not needing to root and the best hardware.

I wish they came out with a new Nexus phone with Jellybean that could stack up against the S3.

You guys are pushing me towards the S3 - can anyone make a case for the Nexus?
 
I'd stay away from the galaxy nexus. It only took about a week for me to exchange it. Horrible battery life, average camera and low volume bug ruined it for me. I ordered the s3 which looks to be a much better device than the nexus.
 
Alright, here is a pro-Nexus review for you.

Jelly Bean is awesome. The new Voice Search and Google Now, spanks anything else out there (yes, S-Voice and Siri included). And you can have it today if you root and put a ROM on it. Project Butter makes it feel like I put a new processor in it, it's so much faster and smoother.

Regarding what timelord said, Battery life will not be any worse than on the SGS3, especially if you get the extended battery (which I think actually makes the phone more comfortable to hold). Plus the custom ROMs have very efficient kernels which help here too. The latest ROMs also include a volume bump.

As far as camera, stills may be average, but video is quite good IMO. Also there are some good apps to improve your shooting if you are interested.

Overall, if you ARE interested in rooting and installing custom ROMS, its Nexus by a healthy margin. :)

I too, have been considering the samsung galaxy siii. It has some amazing features and is super quick, however after playing with it awhile, I am def not a fan of the interface, like many have said. I am primarily a Blackberry user, but they've def seen better days and I'm doubting they'll ever release their next QNS phone, which has been pushed back again until sometime in 2013.

I do love the flexibility of blackberry though. All the shortcuts and built in options for mass efficiency made me fall in love with their devices. I don't care for the iphone-style-even-a-monkey-could-learn-it interface that so many phones are going to.

I can't decide if I want to just deal with it and go with the new galaxy or wait until the new Nexus phones are in later this year. Has there been any new rumors on the new Nexus specs? Anyone know if they'll have a 8mp camera like the galaxy does (another big draw for me)?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
I'm in this same boat, got an upgrade coming up soon and not sure which one to get. Time for some review reading and tolling the forums. :)
 
I love my Nexus, it's running Jelly Bean and running it very well. I did fall in love with it after rooting and flashing a rom. Today I get my GS3. So my opinion.....get both of them.


All kidding aside, this GS3 better be pretty good to beat out my Nexus. I'll come back after I play with the GS3 for a bit. I can say if you will be running stock, get the GS3

I was originally torn between the G Note, GS3 and G Nexus. The fact that the GS3 does have handwriting recognition was enough to knock the note out of contention for me. Although I do like the size, and I do like the S-Pen, I just won't make the use of it. It is a pity that the Wacom digitizer didn't make it into the GS3.

So now it is between the GS3 and the G Nexus. And this is where I am torn.

I have never been a fan of TouchWiz, although the reviews of the GS3 says Samsung have gone a long way in trying to sort this out. So I am less worried about TW now.

Moving on to the core OS - the G Nexus is due to receive Jellybean soon, but is it? I am a little bit wary considering the hash that was made of the OTA update of ICS to the Nexus S, receiving it well after the G Nexus was released with it as stock. In fact, not long after my Nexus S updated to ICS, so did my bro's HTC. So was there any real benefit? And how long before the next Nexus phone, there must be one due soon.

The S3 definitely has the better tech, and will most likely get JB eventually. So that is what I am leaning too - but I am still undecided.

i think your problem with receiving updates with the nexus phones is your using the carrier versions

notice the nexus s will get it right away assuming your using the true google nexus s

notice those are all the true nexus devices, not the carrier versions..........the gnex buying outright is 350$ right now, and you actually get updates strait from google, where as with the s3, you'll be waiting
 
^ So if you get the gnex through a carrier you'll probably also have to wait yes?

But I'm not - I bought my Nexus S sim free from the Carphone Warehouse because it wasn't available through my Carrier (Three UK) at the time.

This worked out for me as I u/g through my carrier, gave the phone to my wife and put her on a sim-only contract leaving my contract unchanged, but with a sim-free Nexus S.

Whether it is the carriers fault is another matter, but it is not a carrier supplied Nexus S.

I might hang out until the end of the month to see if I get the JellyBean update on my Nexus S. Once I have played with that I can make more of a decision on the SIII/GNex decision.
