Help Galaxy nexus overheating on android 4.1

I've run into a problem when my phone is charging and the alarm goes off, if it doesn't wake me up for awhile it gets almost burning hot, and will usually shut down as soon as I try to use it, then won't power back on for about 5 minutes. It seems like the combination of powering the vibrator, speaker, and charging just generates too much heat and I'm worried it will damage my phone, has anyone else had this issue? I'm using the samsung extended battery and samsung charger that came with the phone.

yikes!
never had that happen...but i guess i usually wake up within the first 10 seconds or so, and i dont use vibrate. but i have never had that happen.
in fact, even when i push the phone (streaming, GPS, navigation, screen on, and charging) it never gets to the point that it shuts off.


not really sure what to tell you other than shut off vibration, and use a different alarm tone so you dont sleep through it so long....lol

Generally if either the battery or the CPU get too hot, the phone will (or should) shut down to protect itself from damage.

Do you still have the original OEM battery and back-plate that came with the phone? If so then maybe you could try swapping out the battery first and see if that makes any type of difference.

If the phone still gets too hot then you might try removing all of your 3rd party user apps and run the phone this way to see if it still heats up when the alarm, vib etc. are going (in case there's a rogue app running in the background that shouldn't be causing the phone to heat up). If it does, then you might have a hardware issue.

Troubleshooting can be a pain in the rear, but it's often times necessary to try and get to the root of an issue. Let us know what happens?

He doesn't have to uninstall all the apps directly. Reboot into safe mode.

Press and hold the power button like your shutting down the phone. But press and hold the "Power off" option. A safe mode prompt will pop up and select ok. Your phone will reboot with the text "Safe Mode" in the corner. This disables all 3rd party applications, without uninstalling them (so they can't run). Your phone will behave as normal, just that you won't have access to apps you install on the market. When you reboot, everything will be back to normal.

If you are still having overheating issues, its a system issue. If not, go through your apps in normal mode.
