Help Galaxy Nexus Restarting Randomly

So I've had my Galaxy Nexus for about 21 months now and never had any problems with it. It is completely stock and I don't have any modifications to it. Recently, the phone has been restarting by itself and has been overall generally sluggish. It restarts at least once a day and sometime multiple times. By restarting, I mean it goes to the Nexus colored X start-up screen and then comes back on. Texting and Hangouts are also extremely sluggish and take more than a few seconds to load and start typing, especially when switching between the two.

I guess my question is has anyone else experienced this and is there anything I can look into myself to try and see what's going on with it? Or will I have to take it into Verizon and have them look at it? Thanks for you help!

I had this problem about 18-19 months into my SGN ownership. I had the phone rooted, and potentially could have had a buggy version of android, or didn't install it correctly, but I was getting the random restarts like you described.

I was also having issues that I attributed to the phone freezing when I un-slept it. This I figured out was the cause of a lot of my restarts.

Eventually, my phone got stuck in an eternal boot (stuck on X screen indefinitely). It would load bootloader, but not the OS. I had to turn it on to the bootloader, then plug it into my computer, and pull all my data using command prompt in windows. After that, I wiped my phone, and installed a new version. Now, with Android 4.2.2, if the phone hesitates during un-sleep, it always comes on within a couple seconds.

I suggest a new OS (Purity is great) for you if you have root. Or I suggest rooting, if your phone is not.

Hope this helps!
