Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Thanks! Check the links out; I do big digest posts. I think people thank the post because I put work into it, but I get the feeling no one reads them. :p

And happy belated birthday, of course. :) Hope to see you around here more often, Early!

You have said this before razor so I will say again...I do read em...not all cos some I have read but most...

@Early and @CapitanRon: Happppppy Birthday!

Welcome to the Watering Hole and the forums new peeps! Being Gold is awesome, too!

I have discovered the only thing I don't like about tapatalk....no colors for names. If jmartino hadn't said he was going gold I would not know it until I used a real browser.

@BabyBlues, CaptainRon, Copacetic, jmar: Okay, thanks guys, sorry for doubting. :)

Anyway, unrelated: I studied in Thessaloniki, Greece, for three months during my undergrad. Almost every morning, I would go around the corner to a little breakfast place and get a delicious custard pastry called bougatsa. Since getting back to Boston, I've looked all over for a place that would make it, but I've had no luck. Then I heard about a little Greek bakery just outside the city, called them, and lo and behold, they said they'd make it for me! I took the bus out there this morning, just got back and dug in - glad to say that it's almost as good as the authentic Greek product. :) Really takes me back!

I went gold a while back my dear. ;)

No support for name colors! Bogus. The only thing I don't like about the phandroid app is that my messages tab just won't work! :(

Razor! Keep it up good sir...you are bay area Cali right?

Edit: The app isn't showing my emoticons at all! I winked after the first sentence and sad faced after the second paragraph!

Oops. I think in my sleep deprived mind I must have seen your name. I meant I wouldn't have known that chiph411 went gold. :o

My color hasn't changed yet, patiently waiting, as I did for the release of the Nexus:(

Hmmmm. Absolutely and sincerely sorry for the delay and confusion.

Phases is out on personal travel through tomorrow, but will try to tend to everything he can during this time. Please PM him as the others have suggested, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to cc me and also mention if you paid for the monthly or six month plan.

Your support is absolutely important to us and we really appreciate your patience this weekend.

Thanks for showing the love by going bold and gold! :)

As EM says, we're sorry it's a bit delayed due to the Admin's rl schedule. But once it's there, you'll be looking good, especially if you take your time and find yourself a nice avatar with some gold in it to set off your new gold user name. :)

A gold chip, perhaps?...

Hi all fellow Gnexers!

No, I'm not dead... well, not yet

Anyway: just wanted to chime in here and tell you that I looked over the Nexus Root Toolkit and I cannot see ANY reason why ANY person wanting to root can't. Its just that simple now.

In fact, you had me THIS CLOSE ----> -][- to rooting myself!

But you know what? I'm really perplexed this time as to what rooting and ROMming can give me that (a) I don't already have; and (b) is worth the voided warranty. The OG Droid was a no-brainer: it NEEDED rooting and ROMming. Nexus? IMHO it's a matter of WANT more than NEED. This phone does just about everything as it is!

The only argument that I could come up with is the ability to wifi tether, and I refuse to do that anyway because I simply will not risk Verizon busting on me and cancelling my very lucrative data plan / contract. So: unless something really slobberific comes up that requires root, I choose to stay stock on this one. You ROMmers have fun - I think I'm gonna sit this one out :)

Okay, back to your regular scheduled programming!

Glad to see ya Chief! Roms give me variety. And I have the ability to save a bit more battery with being rooted and rom'd / kernel'd. Other than that I can see your reasoning to stay stock as well

Chief - one word, DroidWall.

Free in the Market.

If I'm not mistaken, EarlyMon, Comodo Mobile Security does much the same thing and no root is required. DroidWall is very compelling, though.

However: I'm very happy to hear that you have found an outstanding app that justifies the use of root, and I understand that completely :)

My one word answer is AdFree. When I was had my rent-a-razr, the ads were all i could see in apps. Being my only unrooted device, i had never had to look at ads before and i never could get used to them. No matter how small they are, they are intrusive and ruin the look and feel of even the most polished app.

My two word answer is battery life. The stock rom/kernel can't even come close to what is offered by the custom versions available now.

There is no functional crossover between Comodo and DroidWall. A firewall cannot be installed in Android without root.

But Android is all about choice, and you seem happy with yours, so I won't pester you further. :)

ask away. ;)

Perfecto...

To anyone using built-in wifi tether on a ROM (I'm using Codename), does it take awhile for you to connect to the internet on the computer you are tethering to? For both wifi and USB tethering, it connects with limited access for awhile...then cycles a few times, then eventually connects. When it is connected, it stays connected so I can't complain too much, but it usually takes awhile to connect. Using Windows 7 too BTW...

I don know about it that way. I know the wifi tether I use is an almost instant connection

Hey hey everyone :)

Is is a sin to be on this forum using a Macbook pro?

Looks like I am back to work tomorrow. Spent the last 10 days on vacation doing pretty much nothing although I did run a Mythbusters marathon, put ICS on my Xoom, some minor desktop computer tweaks, adding an SSD drive and installing windows 7 64bit. I attempted a ram upgrade as well only to have the two new sticks be bad :roll eyes: I spent a lot of time just doing nothing but watching TV :D

Still no Nexus hacking.

On a quick note, has anyone set up ADB on their Mac? And or RSD lite?
