Galaxy Note 2 Tempered Glass

ScandaLeX

Wasn't Me
I've created an accessory thread which is for tempered glass only- not your regular screen protectors.
Lately I've come across scattered post regarding tempered glass for the Galaxy Note 2 so here's a consolidated list.

XGear Voyager 2 (black & white) $34.99

Spigen via MobileFun SGP Galaxy Note 2 GLAS.t Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector $45.99 (pre-order)

iFeel (keep an eye out- they may do something for the Note 2)

iloome ScreenMate (coming soon) You can also follow the progress on all the social media outlets - just lookup iloome on FB, Twitter, YT, Pin, I'Gram and WordPress

iMuse or this link Never heard of them but their site says "Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Tempered Glass Screen Protector Coming Soon." These are the listed features

  • 1) Surface hardness of 8H (with the hardest being 10H) keeps scratches non-existent
  • 2) Thickness of .4mm allows you to maintain a slim and sleek profile
  • 3) Special coating that resists oily residue from staying on the screen
  • 4) Beveled edge keeps you safe from cracked & chipped edge
  • 5) Smooth to touch
  • 6) No bubbles, easy to apply or remove, can be reused
  • 7) More clearer visibility of your phone screen

And last but not least, you have your eBay listings. I didn't add any here due to the crafty wording. Cant tell if they're actually tempered glass or just normal screen protectors and as I said, this thread is for TEMPERED GLASS.

These are the main ones I'm aware of. If you come across any other tempered glass screens, please post. Please post all other screen protectors in the other accessory thread....you know, the big one that's been going on since the dawn of time. :D

I found a link to a good one but I can't post it get due to being a new member, but type in ghost glass note 2 into google and the first link should be for mime usa there is a review for it on youtube somewhere as well.

You can scratch Spigen off. They will not make a Glas.t for either Note 2 or S3 as they both have the curved screens. There were issues with the S3 and Note 2 where it messed with the sensors. Even on xda there was a user who returned the XGear tempered glass protector because of interferring with both touch and S Pen.

Which is why I am weary about any tempered glass screen protector. It could be the materials used to make them. Even adhesive was questionable and may be the reason for the issues experiences with quite a few users. Some didn't stick properly, bubbling, etc.

For the amount of dollars put down, I think I will pass on any tempered glass protector. I had one on my Note (Spigen Glas.t) and it was great. But with the stories I'm hearing, I'm really not inclined in getting one.

Pulling the trigger for my first screen protector ever. Any hints for a good installation--I'm losing my virginity on this one. JeJeJe

The installation is pretty straight foward, I just like to make sure I have freshly washed hands and try to work in a relatively dust/lint free environment, because nothing bugs me more than getting some lint or an oily fingerprint underneath the protector.

So I wash my hands (use some kind of lint free cloth to dry them), wipe down the phone's screen really well with the provided lint-free cloth (and view it at different angles in the light to make sure you got all the lint off), and try to keep your fingers from touching the screen or underside of the protector.

The Mime also comes with a film that you apply to the screen beforehand and then peel off before applying the glass protector. This is so you can peel off any lint or dust that might still be static-clinging to the screen, before you put the glass protector on.

Aside from that, it just takes a steady hand and a good eye to line it up properly. I like to place either just the top or just the bottom of the protector onto the phone and then slowly lower the other end (but not all the way) so that I can see beforehand how it's going to line up, before I lower the whole thing onto the screen. If it looks like I'm off, I very gently peel it up, double check that the screen is still lint free and wipe it down again with the lint free cloth if needed, and then carefully reposition it.

This is the one I have. I've had it on for a couple weeks and really really like it. I originally had a cheap ebay protector and it got really scratched up pretty quickly from using the S Pen and just from being in my pocket I guess.

The Mime protector went on perfectly on the first try. I felt that it actually went on a little easier than a regular protector because it is not flimsy so you can kinda just "drop" it onto the screen so to speak. Just hold it by the edges and place it straight down onto the screen, as opposed to fighting a flimsy protector that keeps wanting to bend while you're trying to line it up.

I would definitely purchase another one if I ever had to, and will probably get one for my mom's S3. The quality is great. I didn't realize how badly my ebay protector was affecting the image quality of the screen. The Mime protector is clear as, well, glass. It is also very smooth to the touch so your fingers and the S Pen just glide across it really nicely.
I created an account just to thank you for sharing your experience SixtyDashOne. I pulled the trigger after hearing your review. I installed the MIME Ghost glass this afternoon and it looks amazing! It's nice touching glass, there is much less drag gliding across the screen. Also, if I do drop it, it'll break the cover glass instead of ruining my phone. I was a bit wary about trying glass out but after this I wont be going back to plastic film.

Considering my International Note 2 is not covered under any insurance, I might just get the MIME one and try it out on that.

I ended up taking off my SGP screen protector on my Sprint version, just because I thought I might've cracked the glass (when in actuality, there was a small scratch on the screen protector). I think I'm going to keep my Sprint version naked, since it's covered under Geek Squad insurance. If this had been available when I first got my Note 2, I might've gotten it then.

Nice, I'm glad that the review helped somebody out and that you like your Mime. :)

Nope nope nope......not here. This thread is NOT for screen protectors.
As already stated, this is for tempered glass only.
Please check the Master Accessory thread for screen protectors.

Thanks!

Did you end up getting the tempered glass or still running naked? I followed your lead. Running naked, on the Sprint version now (but I don't agree that the oem glass screen attracts less oil...lol...mine looks dirty all the time now).

Still naked.
I saw where yours developed a crack.
I'm sure your heart momentarily stopped until you realized it wasn't your screen. :D

You must have esp cause I was just looking for (& found) your post about the backup external battery. :D

It kinda did...LOL...except, I realized that I have Geek Squad protection for 2 years, so if something really happened, I'd just go get a new phone...hahaha. That's the only reason I'm going naked and sticking with that.

This tempered glass thing is really cool though and I'll probably get one later down the line.

When I started this thread I figured I couldn't be the only one interested in tempered glass screens and at that time I was ready to pull the trigger and get one but then I decided to wait for more reviews--specifically for the Note 2 to surface.

Incidentally since removing my screen protector I haven't missed it nor do I see a need for one.
It's my opinion as screens get better we allow ourselves to stick with old fashioned thinking that screen protectors are a must have item.

The tempered glass for me would be another want; not a need.

Kinda in the same boat. If, when I'm upgrade eligible again, I decide that I want to wait another year to find another new phone, I might purchase the tempered glass for my Sprint version...but I'm fine going with a naked phone (as long as I'm covered by Geek Squad).

What I can't believe it, you two have every accessory for the note 2.
Say it ain't so, Drex I thought I'd have a review by the end of this week. I noticed a tiny scratch on my phone I think from an earring and I'm mad! I can't just shuck out $35 though my money's funny right now but I want one, too.

Well, the International one is still going strong with just the SGP protector, so that's the only reason I'm not getting one yet. Sorry 'bout that. I really do want to try it, but at $31, I can't really justify that for an accessory that isn't needed at this time.

Yeah, my brother freaked when the protector had a scratch on it. I just removed it and applied another one on. But that's besides the point.

I might get the MIME now when I free up more funds. I need a screen protector due to the environment I'm in.

SixtyDashOne: how long have you had the protector on? Is the adhesive still good? Is it oleophobic? Any slight issues with input with touch or S Pen?

TIA.

I do agree and disagree at the same time :)
True we stick to old fashioned thinking that screen protectors are must have item, though it depends on who and how and where the one using his/her phone.

If its a lady who having her purse all around and there is a certain place to keep the mobile safe then no need for protector, while one like myself giving lectures placing the phone on rugh surfaces and keep it in pocket i think its a must to fix a protector
