Help galaxy note 3 dims quickly

hi guys - i just bought a galaxy note 3 here in the uk, odd thing is when i turn it on just to mess about it suddenly goes dim the black screen within 2 secs, keep having to press button on side to bring screen back on then it does it again and again..is there some setting ive got on or is it faulty ?

The only thing I can think of:
Go to Settings
Select Device
Select Display
Select Screen timeout

Mine is set to 10 minutes. I know that's a long time for many, but it's what I prefer. If I don't need it as long, I shut it off.

You might try Stay Alive! Keep Screen Awake. It keeps the screen from auto-dimming. Check it out and see if it is what you need to solve your issue.

as above turn up the screen timeout, designed to reserve battery life by dimming the screen so its not on longer than it needs to be.

actually guys it turned out to be ok in the end...its a new phone so when i started it up first time it asked me to restore all my apps and stuff on the phone which i presume where saved on some account that i had, anyway it backed up almost every app that i had on my previous phone so as it was installing all of hem back it would go off quickly like i said to save battery i assume..once it had done evrything i restarted the phone and so far so good...appreciate the advice..cheers

I'd like to find a way to get the lock screen to stay lit for maybe 30 secs instead of 5.
