Help Galaxy Note 3 Not Reading SD Card

amerijuana

Lurker
Just got a SanDisk Ultra 64GB micro SD card for my Verizon Note 3 but it's not reading the card when I plug it into the phone. It's readable when I plug it into the computer and I've even formatted the drive on the computer and tried to plug it back in. When I go to storage, the area for the SD card is grayed out and says "Mount SD Card, Insert SD Card."

Since it's readable on another device does that mean the SD port is bad on the phone? I've restarted the phone multiple times, btw.

Have you ever tried another sd card in the phone?
Have you checked it's capacity to check it's genuine? There's a program called h2w or something like that that can do this.
How is the card formatted? Cards formatted as exfat (which is what your phone uses) can cause problems. Fat32format can format a 64gb card as fat32 and it'll work perfectly.
Hope one of these helps

I purchased a 'SanDisk' Extreme 64 GB exSDHC 80 GBPS transfer rate and it works very well, loads and mounts just fine in my Note 3.
I've also purchased a 'Transcend' 64 GB exSDHC Ultra class 40 GBPS transfer rate SDHC card and it also works just fine.
You need to be very careful if you format one of these extremely 'High' capacity SDHC cards in a computer to specify that you are using the exFAT format or you will loose the extra capacity that you paid for.
The card, when I received it from SanDisk functioned the very first time that I installed it into the Note 3 without my having to do anything to the device.
You need to make sure that it is seated all the way into its slot or it may not work.

I don't have another SD card to try in the phone. If I could find one, this would be a good test. So I don't have to come back on here to say it did/didn't work. What do I do if it doesn't work? Call Samsung and try to get it repaired? Bring it into a phone repair shop?

It actually has a 61GB capacity, like most drives, the 64GB is an estimate and ranges from card to card.

It's in exfat. I attempted the Fat32formatter like you suggested and it didn't work.

I ensured it was in exFAT format when I formatted it. I tried it again with fat32 like Paul7876 suggested but neither worked.

I've done this about a hundred times. This isn't the issue.

Read SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS... fix It's got a full explanation of what's happening and why, and where to contact SanDisk to get the card replaced (free). Nice company "it's your problem that's causing it, but we'll spend the time and money to work around your problem, then replace your customers' cards at our expense". If they hadn't been the only card I'd buy for years, they would be now. They could have just told us all to complain to Samsung.

Just push it further into the slot.

The guy at best buy store didnt push my microSD card all the way in.
All I did was push it in another 1/10 of an inch - and bam - it worked fine.

No Worries; No Problems; Werks good
