Galaxy Note 3 or Nexus 5

What sold me on the Note 3 was the enhanced S-Pen. I have friends with Note IIs that are really good with their S-Pen and it's incredibly efficient. With the new capabilities for the S-Pen on the Note 3, I'm totally sold. It's unique in the market today.
The Nexus 5 will be more of the same: stock vanilla Android. I've used stock vanilla Android with ROMs since December 2009... so continuing that experience doesn't appeal to me. I know it all too well.
The Note 3, OTOH, has features built in that appeal to me greatly: Air command, voice actions, S-pen note taking and automatic transcription into Contacts and texts, etc. Plus all the stuff I haven't even figured out yet!

You walked me through my first rooting experience and I enjoyed the results very much. However, as my schedule got busier and busier, I found the process of researching and updating ROMs more of a chore than enjoyable. It's not to say I wouldn't do it again, but when the Note 2 came around, it was really nice leaving some of that responsibility and effort to someone else. And to be honest, I'm a fan of the fancy features that comes with Samsung's UI.
My box stock experience with my S4 has been stellar. Without any issues and exemplary battery life, it's unlikely I'll root it. There's a lot of good advantages to Android ver 4.2 & 4.3 as in my 2013 Nexus 7.2
That said it's the large display and yet even more features and usefulness of the significantly enhanced S-Pen, that has me eagerly awaiting my soon to arrive Note 3.
I doubt very seriously that there will be a line at ANY store for the Note 3.
It's a phablet, which puts it in its own category of device. While everyone else is lined up and clamoring for a Maxx or even an iPhone 5whatever, you can walk right in and say "I want THAT one".
Don't be shocked if the rep attempts to sway you to one of the above-mentioned devices: they have quotas to make. But the most heavily marketed phone in the store often isn't the BEST phone in the store
