Galaxy Note 8.0 Professional Reviews

Is there a 64GB internal storage variant of the Note 8? The GSMArena review says:

"16/32/64GB internal storage, microSD slot"

Saw that, but I'm not holding my breathe for the 64gb. I'd be delightfully surprised and definitely would pick up the 64gb version (if it were available), but not anticipating that.

I'm of the mindset of many of the Engaget commenters. The "review" spoke out of both sides of it's neck. One moment they praise things about the Note 8 then in the next sentence or paragraph, the very thing they praised they tore down and vice versa.

Also at many points in time, Engaget spoke highly of the S Pen. Now they're treating it as a gimmick or a joke saying that it's useless. Useless to whom? Who did they ask?

Hell if the Treo line had continued I'd still be using a stylus cause that's the era I came from. I get tired of reading the stylus is a niche accessory.

I don't see a problem with the engadget.com review. A good review should bring out both the positives and negatives of a product and its features, which is what they did. I thought it was a fair review myself.

About the stylus, it is only used with a small minority of products and thus it seems proper to call it a niche accessory.
it is. but there are a LOT of people in the niche for it. the Note, Note 10.1, Note 2, Note 3 and the suite of Note-specific software speaks volumes about how much people LIKE a well-implemented stylus.
That's exactly why I'm thinking of getting this tablet. I want to know first hand what all the stylus hoopla is about. It reminds me of my pocket pc days when a stylus was needed to operate my Dell Axim x50v! :D

LOL. I have the Axim x51v (and previous to that, the Sony Clie lineup)! Good old days... ;)

The S Pen is different from a regular stylus (which was just a stick with a point attached). It seems like they forget that there are things working in the background that allow the digital pen to do what it does. It's also Wacom tech. Not cheap tech either. Look at the Cintiq line.

You want higher resolutions? Expect to pay a very hefty premium for it. That and the fact that it will require more power to run. There's a reason why the resolution is not pushed any higher and I think Samsung/Wacom knows it.

Also, AMOLED (it's OLED and not LED) screens have a finite lifespan like old CRTs. They will eventually die in the end. That is why it is not fully implemented in current displays, etc. That is the inherent weakness of these screens. Which is why I liked the fact the Note 10.1 has TFT LCD instead of AMOLED. At least I know the screen will last a good lifetime.

I still have my Note 10.1 which is plenty for me. The Note 8.0 will be a step backwards in my case. Amazed they didn't put the speakers on the front and no flash for the camera.

I still have my Palm Tungsten T|3 and about 4 or 5 stylus.....Ahhhh nostalgia.... :p

I'm concerned about the reviews I've watched that all state the battery life isn't great on the Note 8.
Considering it's a super sized Note 2, which has an incredible battery, I'm not understanding this at all.

I wouldn't be at all concerned - my battery life is excellent - less than 10 percent loss after two hours of varied use including web-surfing, playing music, etc.

Remember, most of the so-called "reviews" are moronic copycats just parroting what another equally moronic reviewer has written. Then too, you don't know what they have running in the background or their use conditions - I imagine that most reviewers do not have a Galaxy 8.0.

Go ahead and enjoy - you will not be sorry!

I sincerely don't believe Lisa from MobileTechReview is a moronic copycat.
Her vids are my 1st go-to because she's going to give you the good, bad & ugly.
Lisa is just one of many reputable reviewers I have a lot of respect for.

i have been getting about two days use out of mine, the same as my phone. but then, i've turned off or slowed down updates and turned off the eye scanning thing. i also don't use facebook so i'm sure that's part of it too.

streaming movies, websurfing, notes are the things i tend to do. i've yet to have it last less than a day, which is all that matters since it's easy to plug in at night. especially easy now that they've gone to the standard micro-usb plug that we've all got lying around everywhere. it doesn't complain when i plug it into my .85 amp charger, but it comes with a 2 amp which i of course prefer to use. i haven't tried it into a computer, but i'm assuming it'll pull a charge from there, too.

Yes, Lisa stands out as do a few others and my comment was really directed at the "reviewers" who write reviews while never touching the device. Unfortunately there are far too many of the latter.
Just trying to point out that battery use really depends on the local conditions and generalizations may be erroneous.

Not sure any of you caught it, but she mentioned a 32gb for $499. I have a feeling she just confused that pricing with the 32gb Note 10.1, while doing the Note 8.0 review. I posed the question in the comments section of the review (right above ScandaLex's comment), so we'll see what she says.

Haha haha!!!! Has this happened to anyone yet?
Using the S-Pen on the capacitive buttons on the Note 8 then attempting to do the same on the Note 2.

I was already used to using my S-Pen for everything so it's a no brainer on the tablet but so far every time I've picked up the phone I keep hitting the capacitive buttons with the S-Pen then sitting here looking crazy.

Admit it.... ya'll did it too! :D

Never happened to me with the Note 10.1. Although I got used to using the S Pen shortcuts to invoke the menu and back buttons. Never relied on pressing the menu or back buttons on either device when S Pen is in use.

With the S Pen button pushed draw ^ for menu key and < for back key. Pretty sure the 8 should have this also?

Yes it works the same way.

I have had somewhat of the opposite experience. I get on my 8 and find myself tapping the back and menu buttons with my finger instead of the pen. Then I'm like "... oh yeah... I can use the pen on these" lol.

I was like this when I took it out the box and then maybe for a few minutes afterwards until my memory kicked into gear.
