Help Galaxy Note contact problem

MindStorm

Lurker
I have a Galaxy Note with the latest official firmware and stuff.
The story: I had a particular contact on my sim card, let's call it "A". When I bought this phone, I've copied all contacts to phone memory.
Some time later, I learned that "A" had a wrong number entered, so I changed it (on the phone, not on the sim card). I had some troubles with that, because I was sending SMS to the A's number on the phone, received the reply, but if I wrote something back to A from the chat, not by creating new message, the message was sent to the A's number on the sim card, which was wrong.
After that I deleted all the chat history with A, removed both A contacts from SIM and from phone, and then created A's contact again, on the phone only, and with the correct number. But even now, when I reply to A's sms messages in the chat, they are being sent to the same wrong number A used to have, although there's no such phone number in my contacts.
I don't get it. Of course, I can always write a new message instead of using chat thread, but it's inconvenient, and I want to solve the problem, not use workarounds.
Any ideas?

in fact my wife has this exact same problem that whatever she does, replies to a certain friend always go to the wrong number.
somewhere within the phone is a log which doesn't get cleared either by deleting all conversations or by deleting the contacts.

A complete 'factory reset' has been suggested but that's awful drastic as you'd have to re-load all your apps and input all contacts again.

Hello to both of you.

I've moved this thread to the Galaxy Note forum for some faster responses. :)
