Help Galaxy Note goes into boot cycle after applications update

Hello,

Sorry for the noobie question, but I'm unable to find a solution on other similar threads. Hope the folks here can help me. So, here goes...

My Galaxy Note goes into a boot cycle after I did an update of various installed applications a couple days back. Basically, the samsung logo comes on after the twirly logo, and this loop continues endlessly.

No system update was done, it's on 4.1.1 if I recall. Phone is not rooted and I have not done any backup to date (yikes!!). I tried restarting the phone without the sim & SD card, problem still persists...

Is there any way in which I can recover my Note without a hard reset? For example, is there any recovery file(s) which I can save to the SD card, and subsequently perform a recovery from the SD card?

Thanks,
Nash

It may be useful if you start the phone in safe mode as described by WhiteCollar in post #7 at

http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-2-shuts-off-have-remove-battery-restart.html

The link is for an SGN2 but hopefully it also applies to the SGN1. The only thing I would add to WhiteCallar's post is that you should release the power button as soon as you get the first Samsung logo but keep the volume down pressed until the phone has completed its start cycle.

That will allow you to

(a) confirm that it is an app issue and not a coincidental hardware problem

And (b) give you a stable handset so that you can uninstall any apps that you suspect.

Needless to say, it may be as well to perform an immediate backup!
