Help Galaxy Note not charging

If CPU Spy says your cpu is working at the higher frequency a lot, then it probably is down to an app that needs to be stopped or uninstalled. You need to find out which app is responsible.

Click settings/Battery and see what it says there.

ok i used that cpuspy,
it spends about
10% at 1512mhz
12% at 1242
8% at 810
40% at 384
30% at deep sleep

unused states 192

when i installed this last night it charged with out a problem from my computer (something i usually dont do)

today was the first in manythat my phone lasted this long almost 9hrs, checked it through out the day slightly below avg use for me. maybe problem solved?

so plug back into computer starts charging approx. avg. rate. then stalls at 30-40%, power master calls it a healthy charge which i dont get often.

some how i thought it was too good to be true that it fixed itself and that tonight i was gonna fully charge the old and new battery tonight and be ready for a full day LOL

do those #s look like they should be in that range?

thanks for all the help!

Your Android sys 33% seems very high to me. I suggest you have a rogue app that is causing the high battery drain. Have a look at this thread. http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-v-4g/652385-how-find-rogue-app-battery-killer.html

For example my current battery stats are 2d 3h 40m 47s on battery.

Click settings/Developer Options and make sure nothing is ticked. Make sure the Window animation scale is set to 0.5x and the Transition animation scale is set to 0.5x. Set the Background process limit to Standard limit.

Please let me know if any of the developer options were either ticked or set differently to what I described.

Finally, click Applications, then Task manager/Ram, let me know how much Ram is in use, then click Clear memory and let me know what it says after clearing the Ram.

Please let me know if any of the above has helped at all.

window animaition was set to 1. so changed it. transition was off, changed that as well.

only check mark i had was show touch, so i unchecked that aswell
through task man my ram was 650/720 cleared it went down to 580/720 it seems to float between 500-650

will check link out after work when i have time. thanks!

ok so i managed to leave this morning with 84% after poor charging. it drained rapidly today, so i used it less. home now its 2% on the charger. just installed battery mix. it is currently charging.... for now normaly. with minimal usage.

should i be doing battery pulls often? i usually do every 48 hours. as my swiftkey would stop working. i haven't added any recent apps, i haven't even really been using my phone like i would occasionally. so im a little stumped to what it could be. the brightness is always set 0% 15 second blackout

:( thanks for the ongoing help!

I never do a battery pull at all, so unless there's a very good reason I wouldn't recommend it. I do however tend to do a restart once a day.

Your ram usage is high compared to mine which hovers around the 450MB mark. I can only think that either you have an app that's consuming your battery or you have a lot of apps running in the background.

Take a look at the link below to see what's safe to disable.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html

The way you disable an app is by clicking settings/applications then the all tab then click on the app you want to disable and click the disable button.

it seems to take a lil longer for the full charge but it was 100% when i left the house this morning. 5% by 7pm thats approx 11 hours. much better performance than what i have seen lately.

this morning i deleted my google calander widget. maybe it made the difference, not sure.

but i ahve noticed that my cpu doesn't run in the high ranges like it has since i started using cpu spy. i guess well see what tomorrow brings i guess.

My SG Note started charging intermittently then not at all unless i held the charger in or leant it up against the wall. i assumed the charger was on it's way out so i used a different one which fixed the problem temporarily until this happened again. i have 3 chargers that now dont charge my phone and a USB connector which doesnt work at all now.

does this sound like my phone's charging port has a problem or that i just have rubbish chargers? my mum and brother also have samsungs that have this problem with the chargers

I have a new galaxy note 2 (2 weeks old) the phone is sometimes hard to charge, I tried plugging & unplugging the charger many times so that it will charge again. this already happened twice. The first time it happened is when i let it charge overnight & in the morning i was surprised i found out it stopped charging at 70% so I tried to unplug the usb socket & plug it again it still wouldn't charge, I tried many many times until finally it charged. I'm getting worried maybe my device is failing?

This happens to my phone every few months. Luckily I have caught it before it completely died. It always happen to me when I am using the phone as the phone is plugged in and charging so I have no idea the battery is steadily draining until I see the percentage is not at 100% but 48% because the battery indicator give the appearance that the phone is charging . What works for me every time is to immediately find the charger that came with the phone or another similar phone (never use because its too short but none of the after market chargers with longer cords have worked) which immediately start charging. So this charges my phone within 30 minutes.

I think it is probable that people posting here are suffering from a variety of problems, but one problem/solution I have not seen discussed is the "USB charging bug". This is a bug which prevents the phone going to sleep if it is removed from charging while the screen is off. The only solution I know of is to wake and unlock the phone before removing the charger. I don't know if this is a hardware issue or software, but I've seen it on my Note with different ROMs over a 16 month period of ownership.

It is now my standard practice to wake and unlock the phone before removing the charger. It doesn't matter whether I'm charging from mains or in the car. I always wake the phone before disconnecting the charge lead. Then I can manually turn the phone off immediately and all is well. If I do that then I do not have problems. Recently I chose on purpose not to follow that routine on the new JB ROM and sure enough the bug revealed itself. So the bug is still not fixed with the latest ROM.

The connecter on my Note is also broken, so it does not charge unless I press the cable downwards relative hard or I must put something heavy on the end of the cable.
Should take it for warranty.

I have this problem but it's the cable, not the phone. Any other cable works fine, but I am persevering because the cable that is faulty is an extra long one so I can charge my phone on the bedside table which is not close to the wall socket. I just have to prop the cable up slightly and charging works. I will get a new cable sooner or later.

have gone through this thread....

i have a similar problem. the phone never charges above 27% even after i have left it plugged in for 10hrs straight....

battery isnt faulty, worked good my friends phone. cable not a problem. i guess something is causing the battery not to charge.

also, after 27% it reaches 1% within 10mins (no wifi,no bluetooth, no sync...just unplugged and not even touched it once!!)

What happens at 1% ajaynatu?

My charge / daily usage is such that the battery never gets very low. However, when I have deliberately run it low to re-calibrate the battery meter I seem to recall all manner of notifications being given to re-charge etc. Do you get those notifications or does the phone just switch off?

even if i have plugged it at 1% aft an hour or so it remains at 1%..!!!
never even touched the phone in that 1 hour... something is running in background maybe thats draining the battery, not sure what...
i do get to notifications...

Are you using the official charger or some third party charger?

Have you tried charging with the phone turned off completely - not just sleeping, but totally off?

If it's turned off completely then nothing can be running in the background and it has to charge - unless there is something seriously wrong with your phone, charger or battery.

One more app to try to see what is going on behind the scenes when charging and discharging your phone....

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw

I installed it on my phone yesterday evening as I just bought a new "genuine" Samsung charger from eBay and wanted to see what sort of charging current it would deliver. Here are plots showing the battery voltage and charge/discharge current as I fully drained the battery to 0% before bedtime (phone shut itself off) and then put the phone on charge overnight. You will note the sawtooth charge profile for a few hours once the phone was full. Then the charge drops during today as I use the phone. Each division along the horizontal scale represents one hour, with the thick vertical line in the mniddle indicating midnight last night.

hi,
i used to charge the phone when its switched off.. but tht is an interim method and not the final solution.

tried charging the phone by just the usb cable and it gets charged to 100% !!! :)
however still takes 8-9 hrs to get fully charged and still has tendency to remain SUPER_HOT :(

Please try charging with the authentic, original Samsung mains charger and supplied lead, no fakes, no substitutes, no laptop/PC - just the original charging equipment.

For the sake of experimentation at least, DO NOT CHARGE FROM A PC/LAPTOP. I've seen my own Note actually lose charge, and get hot, when charging from my laptop. If I need to connect it for some reason then I do so, but I do not expect the charge to increase and I always disconnect as soon as I am done and then check for the charging bug - manifested by out of control CPU speed, the phone getting hot and the charge level plunging.

Hi,

My Galaxy Note - bought on 21st Nov 2011, is not charging anymore.

When I connect it to the wall charger or to the PC USB cable the charging does not work.

As the phone was not charging, I thought it must have hanged and hence removed the battery and then again started charging the phone. Voila, I was able to charge it as required. I then restarted the phone while the wall charger was still connected to the phone and the phone started and was still charging. Hence I thought of removing the charger and then again retry charging, to my horrors the phone was not charging again. No hang up nothing wrong, but the phone will not charge.

Tried connecting the phone to USB and even USB was not detected, thought that it might be a software issue and hence did a factory reset. Again the same, phone does not charge when its swithched on but if its switched off and charger connected, it will charge properly.

Please help.

Thanks,
Kailash

I had this same problem. Dont worry though, its not your charger as many people here suggest. Its actually the phone charging slot. looking at mine, ive managed to twist it somehow, so when i charge it, i have to rest something heavy on the USB port going into the phone. Its slowed down charging i think and i cant really use the phone when its charging like that, but its how im coping until an external battery pack charger comes through.
I have been told that i can claim warranty on the phone through Samsung but because its a repair, its gonna take a few days which i just dont have. Anyway: Conclude: Put something heavy on the usb slot going into the phone to make the phone charge
I wish you all the best in using your phone from here on in.

Dear Kailash,
Lots of wrong answers....
Here is one for you. You were probably charging your note in a car with a non original usb cable. Or it was almost out of battery juice and you used a non original cheap charging cable. The thing is there is a small capacitor like component on the mother board that controls the connection of the usb inlet for charging and also for connection to pc. This component is high voltage sensitive and is known to burn on a voltage surge or spike. It is difficult to find an exact replacement that fits the size and usually they get it when another note is broken. No documentation from Samsung on that part... . If you find a source for these capacitors, I will be happy if you get one for me. I will refund the part and shipment. I saw two dead notes 2 in the local repair shop. A battery charger and extra batteries will probably cost you about 60$.

You sir are correct! I too have to apply downward pressure to the usb input (coffee cup) to get a connection. This was driving me crazy too. I have three different chargers. 1. OEM charger 2. Docking station w/extra battery charger & 3. Car charger. All chargers doing nothing until I applied pressure to the input slot of the phone. This is BS. I just got this phone (NEW) just over a year now. But, I found a workaround for now.:(

Same thing with my Note! I ordered a new port and changed it(pretty easy) but the phone is doing the same thing with the new one... Im suspecting the speaker assembly thats on top of the charging port. :stupid:
