Help Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 charging???

I have a Note Pro 12.2 - it's awesome, one thing though the charging cable is so thick - it has a double type connectoer (USB 3 I presume) I have heard you can charge with just a standard cable though e.g. a Galaxy S3 cable - as long as I use the plug adapter that came with the Note Pro... is this true?
