Help Galaxy PIN Displayed

hellobye

Lurker
While typing the pin to unlock the phone the it displays the number you press for a second before it converts it to a star/hash/*. Anyone who is looking at the screen while i am unlocking the password can easily see the password. how can we avoid this.

Using Galaxy S3 :)

Welcome to the AndroidForums, hellobye!

I've moved your thread to the main SGS3 forum for you.

I know what you're saying--been there myself on my devices, too. Wish there was a configurable timeout for this, but I'm not aware if there is.

Not sure of a solution other than tilting your screen away from prying eyes.

Cheers!

That's why I've set up my phone to unlock when it sees my face.

Menu -> Settings -> Security and lock screen -> Screen lock -> Face

It generally works well although it doesn't like strong back-lighting. If it fails to recognise you, it will then ask you for your PIN instead.

Welcome to the forum hellobye.

If you go to settings, security and untick make passwords visible it should sort the problem.

Its slow though. It takes too long to not recognize you before reverting to PIN. At night time I found it was taking 5 seconds + everytime I wanted to use it.

Plus its not very secure. My colleague unlocked my s3 with a photo it me displayed on his iPhone screen.

Yes, you're right, but I travel a lot on public transport and I'm more concerned that people could just watch me type in the PIN. For this reason I use a separate code for the unlock screen so no one can get access to anything else. Also, of course, if I lost my phone, I can track where it is, lock it, erase it etc., thanks to both Samsung and AVG.
