Ok forgive me for asking but are they the same phone?
surely they would not release teh 4g then in a few months release the s2 right?

No they are not the same phone. Galaxy S 4G is simply the same Vibrant (Galaxy S) from last year plus faster data signal antenna for T-mobile's HSPA+ network, front facing camera and a little bigger battery.
Galaxy S2 is newly announced phone from Samsung. It's major upgrade in hardware in almost every way (dual core CPU, 1GB RAM, Super AMOLED plus screen, 2.3 gingerbread, NFC sensor, etc). I don't know where you are but it will be released sometime in Q2 outside U.S first and a little later in the U.S.
