Root Galaxy S - Missing OS

This is my very first time posting on any forums. So yay to you all for getting to read this.

Yesterday I did a very foolish thing. Here is my problem.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000M phone. It had Android 2.3.3 installed on it, with no chance for upgrade in my area (Western Canada).
I read online on this forum and other forums how to install Android 4.0 or the CyanogenMod. So I proceeded with the first step from the Wikipedia Full Update Guide.
1. I installed the ClockworkModRecovery and updated the drivers.
2. Then I wiped data and cache.
3. Then installed the Cyanogen Mod using the Heimdall suite.

When I went to reboot the phone it just kept looping the load screen. I tried rebooting over and over.
Here's where the stupid part came. In my panic I wipd the data and cache again then formatted everything from within the phone. The boot, system, data.
Now when it starts I see a cell phone and computer symbol with an exclamation point.

After reading many other forums and work arounds I tried many times to use Odin to re-install the stock ROM from Samfiles. Odin can see the device but it never gets past the setup connection. I tried for 8 hours last night with no luck.

I am able to access the downloading part of the phone.

Is there anything else I can do? Please Help.

Alright, If it is failing at setup connection, then it usually points to either usb port, or the usb cord itself. try using a different port or different cord to see if that helps. Another thing, is the battery dead? Since you played with it for a while last night, the battery could have died and needs to be recharged in order to proceed.

I have also seen instances where Samsung Kies can cause interference with the drivers if it is installed. If you have that installed, you could uninstall that, reinstall the drivers again and see if that corrects the issues.

I will try that tonight when I go home. Just wondering if I will lose anything that Kies has backed up from the phone if I uninstall it?
Thanks

Welcome to the forums rockhound. :hello:

So are you saying when you use Odin the com box doesn't turn yellow like this when you connect your phone? Or it does?

Also, with Kies, before you uninstall it, you can try opening task manager on your computer and close any Kies running processes.

In addition to jhawkkw's suggestions, you might even try it on another computer if you can.

Before you try that, let me understand ... this is the image that is on your phone?

Download mode should look like this ....

Try this ...

Take the battery out of your phone and wait a few seconds. Then replace it. While holding both the volume up and volume down buttons (NOT the power button) and with one end of the USB cable plugged into your PC, plug the other end into the phone. That should put you into download mode. Then you should be good to flash with odin.

The top image is usually the result of having no kernel, or a bad kernel flash if I recall from my days of owning Galaxy phones. This would make sense because the description says that the boot was wiped.

Yup. But i got the impression he thinks that indicated d/l mode. If I'm wrong, my apologies.

To Atmazzz. Yes I do see it come up yellow and it does say added in the message box.

To lunatic 59: yes I see both images. When I start phone it is the cell phone and computer icon. When I pull the battry and re-insert it and then do the key combo of Power and Volume Down, I am able to see the downloading screen. That is how I try the Odin flashing.

But yes it's look like there is nothing on phone anymore.

I'm glad it worked out. It's amazing how picky these procedures can be. Enjoy having your device working again.:)
