Galaxy S2 always "sending" ???

Hey guys

I've recently transitioned over to a smart phone and am slowly getting familiar with how they work

At the moment i'm just trying to maximise battery life by adjusting settings.

One thing i'm trying to figure out is when the phone is idle/not in use ie: blackscreen, every minute or so the screen lights up and an icon at the bottom appears with "sending" on it. Can anyone tell me where i can find out what app (if it is an app) is sending out info?

I've installed Advanced Task Killer and killed everything. Wifi, bluetooth etc is turned off. I've even gone into the manage apps menu and stopped running apps as i find they constantly restart when i check ATK (keis, email, social hub, maps etc)

I've seen the term 'polling' mentioned about apps...could it be an app trying to update? Where can i change the polling settings?

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

ironass:

2Mb a day is not normal. If i don't use any internet software, no data is being sent either.

If it would be normal, what would you think used that data?

I am running 3G Watchdog, and today i used GPS essentials to track my daily stroll. I have today received 135Kb and sent 179Kb. This is GPS essentials data traffic. Totally for the last week is 3.1Mb.

The phone does not need data traffic to find a signal. You can still switch off datatraffic and the phone still works ;)

To be fair, the OP says that he's manually turning things off and using Task Killer to kill things... which are probably turning back on again.

My thought is that the OP has turned off everything he can think off but may have missed things like mail polling, Samsung updates, Location, AGPS, etc:

This is why I suggest installing TrafficStats Lite to help track down the usage.

Thanks for the tips guys

Task killer uninstalled...great info in that article ironass :)

Wifi is turned off so whatever is being transferred is going over the network i guess, which from what i've read, can result in elevated data usage (vs wifi usage)

mail polling & gps are definitely off...updates and location i think they're off. I'll keep at it and it'll eventually sink in
