Help Galaxy S2 and Kies

Search "Samsung Galaxy S2 Windows 7 Drivers install those and it will work

Happy for you, but that's not true for me :-(

I'm searching the web in English, French, Dutch and German... and I find so many fellows sharing the same frustration!

Those unhappy, please share on facebook.com/SamsungGalaxyS2

If like me you have gone through every forum trying every possible way to connect your Samsung GS2 to Kies 2.0 without prevail, then read this as was having the same problems as everyone else but I randomly stumbled across the solution by accident (note: you will need a wifi connection). When connecting via USB I was getting the error message saying the device can't connect in this mode, switch to USB mode (or something like that) so I followed peoples advice and switched 'USB debugging off,' however than I get the message saying that Kies 2.0 is not supported with my device. What I randomly did was tick 'allow mock locations' (the same page as USB debugging) for my next step I went to Menu> Setting> Wireless and network> Kies via Wi-Fi, your phone should then recognise your computer which you then press, It will then start connecting to your computer. You should then get a message on your comp saying something like 'Wifi connection requested from (your device no.) allow the connection?' Simply click yes and that should connect your phone via Wifi so you can transfer music, pics and videos etc to your phone from your laptop (make sure you have Kies 2.0 loaded when you make the connection). Hope this answers a lot of questions as I was initially having no luck with any method. Happy connecting :)

I'm now wondering if I might have a faulty micro-USB port on my SGS2 because when I play music via the MDP/HDMI adapter via my Onkyo receiver the sound will cut out periodically. I have to place my SGS2 on the floor rather than on the couch to get consistent, trouble free music. I thought it might have something to do with the SGS2 overheating on the couch, but now I'm wondering if in fact I just get a better micro-USB connection when my SGS2 is on the floor?

Thoughts?

I think i've come to that conclusion too. As well as the symptoms you describe i've found that when I disconnect the cable and go to USB debugging and untick it says that USB is still connected so won't let me. Also the 100% battery icon on the dropdown top bar stays visible long after i've disconnected the charger. Looks like O2 will have to replace my S2...

Hi co forum users

This is my maiden post and advise all wrapped in one :)

After receiving my SGS2 also went through the unpacking, downloading etc. I had endless trouble getting my phone connected via KIES. Even though I was using the original cable, latest version etc. I even had Windows install drivers (USB debugging mode).

Now don't laugh .. but it turned out that the screen lock was the culprit. KIES cannot connect to your device if the screen is locked. Try it, maybe it will work for you too.

Doesn't Kies tell you on the computer screen that you have to unlock your phone for it to connect? It does for me.

Yes, but not immediately. You see, if you connect a locked phone, this is what happens:

In the top left hand corner - below "Connected Devices" - it just keeps going in circles stating "Connecting...". So you wait a while. And a bit more. Then the screen changes to "Troubleshoot connection error". Next you follow the painful process of disconnect, reinstall device drivers, etc.

Option 1:
If you reconnect your (still) locked device, you will get a screen that says "Connection locked" and "The connected device is locked. Please enter password on the connected device". Brilliant, now you figured why it could not connect.

Option 2:
However! Because there is a waiting time while troubleshooter gets busy, you pick up your phone and use it for some reason. With the troubleshooter done you connect your phone again. Only this time it's not locked so KIES will connect.

This happened quite a few times, and each time I thought it was necessary to run the troubleshooter to fix your connection problem. Which it wasn't.

What firmware version are you on? MTP connection seems better in 2.3.6

Last time after connecting you need to press the home key to disable. Now you can connect, then just unlock the lock screen. It goes to the home screen and you can see that MTP is connected in the notification bar.

After attempting to connect my phone to Kies and failing I checked online for a solution. None of the ones suggested worked.

However, when I put my phone into Debugging mode my laptop was able to connect with my Samsung G2 and now I'm able to connect my phone and transfer files flawlessly. Hope this helps others. Cheers.

With the USB debugging, I think you are connecting to PC via USB and not through Kies. Its similar to going to the USB utilities in settings and choosing to connect that way.

With the USB debugging ticked, can you use Kies to read the phone? For updates, checking phone firmware version, backup etc...

In my case the USB debugging was not checked, so just for kicks, I checked it and reconnected my phone.

BAM! Windows 7 started installing drivers, and when I ran KIES, it saw and connected to the phone.

Hope that helps someone.

Cheers

Great..... and if you don't Start Kies, the PC should still be able to view your phone right?

Kies have always been temperamental, working one way then another for different people.

Cheers

my pc on xp didnt view the phone despite kies not working, well i say that but it recognised something had been plugged in as it said it might run faster in usb 2 slot.

I use kies air as its much easier or it is for me.

The short answer is that it is not going to work. Not now, not ever. If you like, you can try all the suggestions here, but, at the end, this program will still never connect

i have exactly the same issue with my S2..coudn't resolve it ! How do you connect to the internet ?? is it through a USB dongle ... i think thats the problem..read it smwhere i

Yesterday i got an option for software update on my S2 GT-i9100G. I installed using the normal Wifi as i had wifi in my office, the update was around 12mb

Just thought i'd weigh in with my own account. I too can not connect my Galaxy S2 to Kies. I've tried switchikng the USB debugging on and off, rebooting, uninstalling the software and drivers and clearing the registry, rebooting the phone, trying the different drivers listed in update drivers in device manager.
I can browse the phone every time in Explorer and Kies air works when i use that, however neither of these are going to help me update to Ice cream sandwich which is all i really i want it for. As Orange have just released their update I guess a lot more people will be trying to do the same thing. There is no way to update a contracted phone without Kies is there?
Every now and again (very rarely) Kies does tell me it's connected and the "new firmware available" message comes up, however as soon as you try to do anything like choose to upgrade it says the connection has been lost, please reconnect (although the phone is still listed top left) Very frustrating. I hope a hardware issue can be proven, i dont have any other issues with USB so I'm not hopeful. Looking forward to some clever bod working some magic on here!

On Windows 7 64bit, but have also tried on a windows XP laptop with similar results.

Ahhaaaa! A solution for me! Might work for others. I had decided my fault must be hardware so i phoned orange to try to get a replacement. The 1st guy i spoke to was confident it was a software fault with the handset and told me to do a factory reset which i reluctantly did and made no difference at all. The 2nd guy, a supervisor was a lot more help, Here's what he told me to do, and it appears to have worked (connecting to Kies every time now with all options available but have not followed through on firmware upgrade as i want to fully charge)

1. start kies
2. plug in usb cable to Phone and PC
3. wait for the troubleshoot connection option to come up
4. unplug cable FROM PHONE (not pc, i was doing this before)
5. wait for kies to finish troublehoot updates
6. reboot both phone and pc
7. start kies and reconnect cable

According to orange, this works because the Version 2.3 of Kies should not be released yet and is faulty and doing this fixes it.

I faced the same issue and on repeated attempts. The simplest solution on windows 7 is to launch Kies in administrator mode. (Just right click on the icon and select 'run as administrator') Your phone will surely get detected. :)

Thank you so much :adore: - I was going crazy here

Is it just me or is Kies (and Kies Air) a turd pile? Quite frankly Samsung should be ashamed of themselves! It is as buggy as hell, as un-user friendly (ie not intuitive) as can possibly be, is of very limited utility (why can't I transfer files from internal to external sd?) and mores to the point it's telling me that "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies'. My current firmware version is PDA:LA4/PHONE:KI3/CSC:KH2 (XEU). Yes, a Galaxy S2 running 2.3.6. What the hell? Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem?

Get a grip Samsung:mad:

Actually, Samsung Kies has come quiet a long way and for one of my SGS2 phone I use it without any issue (including for the 4.0.3 update some time back) and regularly now for the backup (for instance)...

Kies is not as bad as you put it - when the phone was with the previous Android version, there were issues, mainly with the contact lists or other things, but ever since they updated the Kies software, it has been working fine and well.

Have you updated to the latest version of Kies? Do that first and see if it helps.
