Galaxy S2 gt-i9100G: All things root

I suppose it depends how brave you're feeling. Cm10 will have bugs as there isn't an official jellybean firmware yet so I'd probably go for the stable cm9. Although I suppose it can't hurt trying. If the jellybean version has too many bugs for your liking you can always flash the ics version after.

hi sir

i have followed everything to the letter. the 4 steps in the ironass guide and the kernel that you so kindly provided me with. i should say that when i go to recovery mode it is indeed written CWM version 5.5.0.4

but i am left baffled when i see everything else is missing. there is no little yellow triangel at the boot up. there are no cwm and superuser apps in my app drawer and when i try to use the apps that need root access it says that root access is denied.

can you PLS help me understand what is going on?

The root method for the g on ics is slightly different. You need to finish the procedure with superoneclick.
SuperOneClick | shortfuse.org
Make sure usb debugging is turned on (not exactly sure where it will be in the g variant settings, but something like settings, developer options) connect your phone to your pc and press root.

ok

1. just like that? no kernel to download? no turning your phone off and going to download mod?

2.say i just use the CWM to flash the cyanogenmod10 that i downloaded from the official website. would i end up with a rooted phone running cyanogenmod10 or would i end up with a bricked phone?

1. You have already flashed the kernel so no need to flash anything else you just need to push root. I'm not sure if superoneclick will install the superuser app so you may have to download from the market after.

2. I don't see why that wouldn't work. As long as you have cwm recovery it should flash and install a rooted kernel at the same time.

It might be worth finishing the rooting process first though so you can backup your apps with titanium as you'll need to wipe your phone to install cyanogenmod.

Can I just check you used the ics kernel and not the ics lp7 kernel as the lp7 has a bug which can brick your phone if you perform a wipe with cwm. It's not present in the ics kernel though.

no. i did use the ics. iread about the bug at the other one and stired clear of it

my main concern is that in the giudes for installing the cyanogenmod the first step is please make sure that your CWM is fuly functional. and i still can't be 100% sure

i took a go backup(titanium still wont work) a nandroid back up and copied the efs files. i also took a note of the codes that come after typing *#1234# as ironass said that it's crucial.

i'm awaiting furthur instructions sir ;-)

To use superoneclick
1. Turn on USB debugging on your phone
2. Open superoneclick
3. Connect your phone to your pc
4. Press root
5.Reboot your phone
6. Your rooted

If you successfully made a nandroid backup cwm recovery will be working fine

the lords of phandroid are my sheperds. i shall not want.

thank you sir. my phone is rooted and running cyanogenmod 10. and to top it all, i didn't brick my phone thanx to you. thanks a million.

but having that said, i actually do want something. :-)

i'm having a little trouble restoring my contacts. i took two back ups. go back and and samsung kies back up. but for no apparent reason the go back up doesnt recognize its own backups and my phone will not connect to samsung kies. any ideas?

Kies won't work with your phone now you are rooted and running a custom Rom. I'm not familiar with go backuo myself but it would appear a lot of people have been unable to restore backups made with a previous version of the app after updating.

All I can think of is to restore the nandroid backup you made which will restore your contacts. You can then save them to google instead of your phone (open contacts, menu, merge with Google). Then reflash cyanogenmod and when you log into your Google account they will automatically be transferred to your phone.

Hello!
I have a i9100G, India. have installed stock ICS and rooted. The current details are as follows -
Model no: GT-I9100G
Android ver.: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100GDDLP5
Kernel ver.: 3.0.8-TH
codeworkx@cyanogenmod #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 11 19:40:06 CEST 2012
Build no: IML74K.XXLPQ

3d games like Temple run etc are lagging horribly(they ran smooth on GB) and so i want to install a custom ROM and/or kernel(if required). Can i install a jellybean based ROM? Please suggest me some bug-free ROMs which are compatible!
Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Please also mention ROM/kernel which allows overclocking of CPU and GPU.

As far as I'm aware there is only one jb kernel at the moment and that is the one which comes with those roms. You will need to flash them with cwm. The kernel you have at the moment will be fine as it will be replaced by the jb compatible one when you flash.

I don't own the G so I can't test any of them so I can't really make a recommendation. It's probably your best bet to browse through their xda pages as any problems they have will be reported there.

I installed the Vanilla Rootbox ROM and i find it good! lacks some useful features, but nevertheless nice!
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

Hi guys,
I just got a used GT-I9100g, and it's Chinese or Korean or something.
It comes with a bunch of apps in Chinese, but no Google Play Store. The only market it has is Samsung's, but that doesn't have the apps I want.
I downloaded the Google Play apk, installed it, but it didn't run (it looks as if it'll run, but immediately closes). What do I do?
The Android version is 4.0.4.
Sorry, but I don't understand ROMs and stuff like that. It's my first Android.

Thanks!
