Help Galaxy S2 Help

Hi there!

I have a couple questions about the samsung galaxy s2 and being a complete noob to the android OS, these questions might be on "lower-tier" level. But if anyone could answer any of these questions, that would be great:

1) My S2 won't connect to my wifi at home. It has connected to other wifi at other places but it has never worked at my home. All it says is "obtaining IP Address" and then it says something like "can't connect, network failed". I have reset the router, tried putting the MAC address in as an exception, tried the wifi as both a WEP and WPA type but none of them has worked for me. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my phone? Also, I tried to broadcast wifi from my computer and my phone was able to connect to the wifi for a while but recently, it has become so that it can only connect to the wifi for a couple of seconds. It still says that it is connected, but when I do try to open an app of some sort, it doesn't allow me to use internet. Is there some sort of solution?

2) I can't connect to Samsung Kies. All it's been doing is saying that the phone is in the process of connecting to the computer but it never connects. I've tried to reinstall kies, and using the troubleshooting system but none of that has worked. What am I doing wrong?

3) What is rooting?

4) What is firmware? Is that like the OS of android?

5) What is flashing an ICS?

If any of these questions can be answered, then it would be greatly appreciated!

Much thanks

1. I had all sorts of problems connecting to my home wifi. It turned out there was too many things running of the same channel so I switched from channel 7 to 11 on my router and haven't had problems since.
2. I'm not to sure on that as I've never used kies myself
3. Rooting and how to root is explained here

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html

4. Yeah its the OS, like windows XP etc.
5. Flashing ics is just installing a new operating system. So if you went from windows XP to windows 7 its the same as going from Android gingerbread to Android icecream sandwich.

If you haven't tried already, it might be worth forgetting the connection on your gs2 and turn your router off and on again. If no luck I think you might have to wait for someone with a bit more experience as I haven't really got a clue myself as the channel change worked for me.

When you reset the router, you mean that you unplugged it for at least 10 seconds, right?

And this is dumb, but it happened to me.
Make sure you're using the right password. On my 2wire router, on the bottom, there's a "password" number, and a "key" number. My password isn't the "password" number; the password is the "key" number.
Told you dumb. Sorry.

What version of Kies is on your computer? Try the older version.

Sorry for the useless info.

I kind of meant press the reset button, not the paper clip in the little hole button. Yeah not router savvy so not my fortay.

A total re-boot (unplug it) can do wonders. Sometimes speedtest.net will show 5 down or something, and after a reboot it's back up to the 11 that it's supposed to be.
I don't know how it works, but a computer can screw up a router to the point that a phone won't even connect to it.
A router reboot can fix computer freeze-ups and Android non-connects.
It might even solve the Kies connect problem as well.
