Help Galaxy S2 ICS dead, cannot factory reset

ruggy123

Lurker
S2 only gets to startup screen then nothing. It will not even accept battery charging via USB. Both Kies and Odin cannot usually recognise the USB device, same as Windows 7. Occasionally Windows7 recognises this device as "Samsung USB CDC Composite device" so I start up Odin3.07, use the Stockplus .tar file but it only gets as far as "Firmware Update STart, then zImage" then nothing. Is this the right .tar file, as I cannot find an ICS .tar file that does not have a .md5 extension to it? I need the photos from a recent overseas trip, what can I do? All help appreciated. Thanks.

Odin won't work unless you are in "Download" mode and you have correct Samsung Android phone drivers.

Regarding which firmware is correct for your phone, tell us your exact model number.

Don't try to flash any files into the phone unless you are sure you have the correct file matching your phone model number otherwise .... you may end up with a completely dead phone.

Took this dead android phone into Samsung headquarters in Sydney. They agreed the phone was OK but Android was dead and unable to be resurected. What is it with Google, I have been in computing for 30 years and no dead operating system was ever allowed to make the hardware unusable. Android is obviously written by children who ignored basic OS rules set down years ago - ie there must always be a BIOS, someway to restart the OS, but not apparently with Android. When I get my new, replaced Galaxy S2, I will sell it on the internet and do something I said i would never do - buy an IPhone - at least the OS is stable. Nothing wrong with Samsung hardware, it is just shackled to a primitive OS that never seems to improve, stability wise. Goodbye Android!!
