Help Galaxy S2 - odd behaviour. Please help.

Hello all.

I'd really like some advice about my S2 if I can. I don't know what's going on.

I'm on holiday at the moment in South Africa.. So I don't readily have access to my Mac. I'm a bit stumped.

My hotel has Wifi which I have been using happily for the last week with my S2 but then all of a sudden this morning, it stopped connecting. It just sits on obtaining IP address and can't seem to connect. I have changed nothing in the settings. My kindle and iPad connect fine.

So I thought it must be something to do with m phone so I installed a new ROam. I had checkrom and my nandroid backup on my SD card handily so tried those. Neither would connect.

I thought it may be a hardware issue but it connects to other wifi networks fine and surfs ok. We tried resetting the router but made not a blind bit of difference. It's most bizarre.

Does anybody have any idea if what could be causing this please? It does seem really odd.

Another problem I have is that my phone was automatically saving photos to the internal SD which I didn't realise until I ran out of space.. So I switched it to the external SD but then ended up with two camera folders.. Naively, I thought i would use file manager to copy them all into the same folder but now what I have is one camera folder with all my pics in and they are all out of order because they all show up as having been modified at the same time so there is no date structure.. If I use something like Quickpic, it fixes this by browsing by file name but I much prefer the built in gallery. Is there a way of fixing this?

I can't for the life of me imagine that by doing the above with the gallery, that is what caused these wifi issues but I have changed nothing else on my phone and it is driving me mad out here..

If anybody has any light they could shed, I'd really be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

You prefer the built-in gallery? But it's horrible! I don't know a way of fixing your photo-ordering problem other than copying them all to a new folder then copying them back one at a time, starting with the oldest. That could be a nightmare if you have lots though.

Regarding the WiFi, which country is your phone from? Different countries have different laws concerning which channels WiFi can use. Some routers can be set to change their WiFi channel from time to time so they're using the least congested channel; it's possible that the hotel's router has done this and hopped onto a channel that's legal in SA but not in the country your phone's from.

Devices are supposed to be locked to the range of channels that are legal in the country they're sold in, but I have heard that Kindles don't do this so they can use any channel. Might be the same story for iPads.

If that's not the problem, try turning your phone off and taking out the battery for a while. This sometimes fixes connectivity problems.

I had a similar problem while away recently. I moved closer to the router and it started connecting again.

Thanks guys. My phone is Uk sim free stock. I have had it six months and never had a single issue with it.

I've tried restarting it, battery's pulling, turning wifi off and on, installing a different rom, factory resetting it and resetting the modem, moving closer and further and nothing works. Annoying as since I can't get on wifi, I can't update all my apps so am now relying on a three week old nandroid backup.
