Hi,
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2, first Android phone. I'm experiencing a few usability issues with the Screen Timeout and Security Lock features that I haven't had on the iPhone or Blackberry, and I'm not sure whether or not these are things I can address with different settings or with third party apps. I've done a LOT of reading through the forums and have not been able to find any suitable answers.
I'm using it for both work and personal use. I connect to my work Exchange server, which requires me to set a PIN or Password. Note that I want to KEEP the security feature that requires a PIN. Some solutions on the forums provide solutions to bypass the Exchange Server enforced PIN security.
My current settings:
○ Screen Timeout (Display -> Screen timeout) = 1 min
○ Security Timeout (Location and Security -> Timeout) = 10 min
PROBLEM #1 - Power Button goes to Security Lock
I want to be able to press the Power Button to lock the screen, so that I can put the phone in my pocket without worrying about pressing buttons by accident. However, I want to be able to pull out the phone prior to the security timeout (let's say 2 mins) and access it by pressing the Power Button AND Swipe.
I still want the phone to Security Timeout after 10 mins, so that if I pulled the phone out of my pocket in 11 mins then it would require a PIN to access the phone.
I would also want the option to press a button to go into Security Lock, but this would be a "nice to have", and I wouldn't mind if this required more steps (e.g. Soft Button -> Security Lock); and I could live without this.
I've seen a few posts mention *#7594# - I'm not clear on what this is supposed to do, or whether it would resolve my issue, but I get the "USSD Code Running" message and then "Unable to process request". And I've seen a few posts mention LockPicker, but I'm not able to find it in the Market, and again not clear if it would resolve my issue. Any ideas?
PROBLEM #2 - Screen Timeout applies to Phone Calls
Because of the screen timeout, it's difficult to end a call on the car when I'm on speakerphone or a wired headset - I have to press the small power button on the side of the phone, and then press End Call on the screen.
I know there is an option to use the Power Button to end calls, but this is not an option for me because I am often on long calls where halfway through I need to be able to access my phone (emails, etc.) - I need to be able to press the power button to get back into the phone. Also, I really like the proximity sensor, which cannot be enabled if you use the power button to end calls.
I want the screen to stay on (very dim to save batteries) during a speakerphone or headset call, and I want the proximity sensor to turn off the LCD when I'm using my phone as a handset. Any way to do this on the Galaxy?
PROBLEM #3 - Maximum Security Timeout = 10 mins
Any way to increase this duration?
Thanks in advance!
