Help Galaxy S2 won't download apps

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and not very well educated on my phone... I've been googling my problem with no luck at fixing it so I thought I'd come here for some advice.

I've had my S2 (if a model number matters, its a SGH-T989D, and its on Telus) for a few months now, and I just recently started having an issue that it won't update or download any apps.
If I go to my app updates available, I can choose to download it, I hit "accept and download" and it just sits there saying "Downloading /////////" forever without progressing. I end up cancelling it because it kills my battery and restart my phone because it stays in my little progress bar at the top of my screen until I restart. Same with downloading new apps. This has never been an issue before - I have downloaded plenty of apps - its just a recent issue. I've tried with wifi on, with wifi off, google said try clearing my market cache, nothing seems to have helped.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I'd like to avoid a factory reset if at all possible.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum destree17 and thanks for joining.

If you go to settings, applications, manage applications, press the all tab at the top and then scroll down to market. Clear data and cache and it should sort your problem.

Thanks for the tip, I don't really know a whole lot about how my model stacks up against others :)

I tried the clear cache and the clear data, which seemed to reset the market next time I went into it, but it still won't download any apps :(

Hi destree!

I've had a similar problem at some time with all my handsets. Try updating one of your apps again, cancelling if it 'sticks' as it's been doing, but then try repeating the update without restarting. For me this often seemed to kick-start things.

If the problem persists it's possible the problem is network-related. I can't see any reports of similar issues in the Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile) section, but it might be worthwhile asking anyway. Alternatively I could move this topic over there?

Thanks for the tips... I tried starting the download, cancelling while it was stuck and trying again without restarting anything, but it didn't help.
I do have a gmail account, and its signed in.

I can download everything else on the phone no problem - emails, pictures, web browsing, and yesterday my phone downloaded an update for the Samsung App store market thingy and that downloaded without any issue. It seems to be just the actual Market that everything gets stuck. :( I guess next step is calling Telus to see if they've heard of this issue. It seems to have popped up out of nowhere - three weeks ago I could download apps and updates no problem.
Hubby has an HTC Desire HD on the newest operating system update (same as mine) on the same account with Telus - and he has no problems.

If anybody else has any suggestions, I'm all ears :)

hey there,

I am new to this forum stuff but im giving it a go! I am having simiar problems with my samsung galaxy s2 where i can't down load any apps. I have been trying to download apps from google play and a message box comes up saying it will download soon to the phone but it doesnt start downloading. I have tried the suggestion above with going through to the application settings. I have got only market feedback agent and market updater and when i click into either of them it doesnt give me the option to clear the cache or data unless i force stop or disable the application. Yesterday it was downloading apps fine and now its not! any suggestions? I dont know how to fix this

I must have the same model as michaelaa2009 as I'm experiencing the same thing however as my phone is only a couple of weeks old I haven't been able to download any apps. Can anyone help us?

Since this thread was started the name of the market changed so it should show up as Google play store

Market = Google Play. Thanks Shotgunn84.

Unfortunately my new phone still keeps going and going but never actually downloads so my problem continues. It ends up with a Error 495. Does anyone know what that is. I can't find a resolution in the forum.

Don't ask my how or why. I had done everything recommended on the forums. Nothing worked. Restored factory settings out of frustration. It worked!!!! Now to reload all my contacts, ringtones blah blah blah. Small price.
