Help galaxy s3 flashing error! lost 4g and mms

I recently attempted to flash synergy to my s3. I have flashed roms before but on my evo. idk if the file I had wasn't for my s3 version or if it was corrupted but I had soft bricked my phone. everything would crash n the screen would have a tile effect. I was nervous but managed top find a video that helped unroot and/or unbrick my phone. I followed all directions and my phone works fine now. only issues I'm having is no 4g connectivity and no mms messaging. I can receive photos but can't send them. it always gives an error. I was able to go into my settings n turn on 3g only but it sucks. I feel like I went from broadband to dial up. anybody else go through this? any help would be much appreciated.

what carrier do you have so that i can move you to the right s3 root forum? this way folks who have your device can help you better.

i do not have your phone, but did you make a nandroid backup? if so you can nand back. if not then re-wipe and re-flash the rom and see if that helps.

I have sprint. and where would I be able to find my backup in my phone? thought it would have been deleted with everything else. and thank you.

So are you now unrooted?
Can you provide a link for:
A. The rom you flashed, and
B. The guide you used to unroot/unbrick.

If you had made a nandroid backup (via recovery) but now have unrooted, that backup may be gone, or not accessible due to the unroot method.

If you are now unrooted we may move this thread to the SG3 forums and continue with the troubleshooting there.:)

i missed the part of you unrooting the phone. that should always be your last option.

as long as you have a custom recovery then all is good. nandroid backups are universal to all phones who have a custom recovery. and nandroid backups should always be done when flashing or making changes to your phone. they should always be on your sd card....though some phones now do not even have one.......so unless you wiped the sd card then it should have been there.

like i said as long as you have recovery then there is no need to panic as you can always nandroid restore one of your backups or just flash another rom or re-flash the same rom.

but now that you do not have recovery then i'm not sure about your issue......though 3g or 4g should not be affected by any custom rom. have you updated your prl and profile? maybe call sprint and see if they are having tower issues.

Well, I would surmise to say you are unrooted. It appears to me that the .tar file you installed via Odin was the stock firmware etc, which will not only unbrick it, but unroot it also. Which is fine. At least your device is operating somewhat.
Let us move this thread into the S3 forums k?
I wonder if you try to update (OTA update) it will put you on the latest update.

this is the link I used to try to flashhttp://www.androidrootz.com/2013/02/synergy-rom-for-galaxy-s3-t-mobileat.html?m=1

and this is the tutorial I used to unroot/unbrick
How to Unroot / Unbrick the Samsung Galaxy S III - Latest - YouTube

I was completely unable to use my phone n couldn't go long without it. It was the first and only tutorial I seen about unbricking my phone. I didn't know that I could unbrick without unrooting

ok just want to clear things up. the term brick is used way too often and it is not what some think it is. to brick your phone is to render it completely useless to you. almost as useless as a brick(unless you are making a brick wall or a brick fireplace;):D) if you have a custom recovery then you are not bricked. there are plenty of troubleshooting you can do with a custom recovery in place.

unbricking is a term i do not like as well cuz you can't unbrick a phone. there are ways to recover the phone depending on the state of the phone, but that would mean that your phone is not bricked in the first place.

i just need to put that out there.

now to go back to your original problem with your 3g and 4g issues:
1. have you tried a factory reset?
2. if not you may need to try and call sprint and see if it is a tower issue.
3. it could be a hardware problem as well.....now that you are unrooted, you can take it in (not that they really care any more about rooted phones).
4. and finally have you tried to update your prl and profile(i'm guessing you can't do this on your phone like you can on my evo 4g lte....LOL)?

edit: i moved the thread to the s3 forum where other folks with the same phone can also help out.

final edit: those damn tire ninja's are the worst!!!!!!

I will try all those things now and see if it works

I do have the latest ota though. still nothing

and idk if its called bricked or not. I was Told it was soft bricked. I couldn't do anything on my phone. everything would force close and it would than tell me to input my google account info. my phone kept freezing and lagging bad and the screen would keep glitching and do this tile effect where I couldn't see anything on my phone. after a few mins it would say everything was force closing. than it would reboot. I basically wouldn't get passed the setup stage

Something more fundamental to look into.

Did you check your APN settings after you flashed when you had the original issue?

Often APN settings are not included in the ROM as they vary by carrier. You should simply just need to look them up for your carrier and create an APN with the right settings.

Sometimes this also requires you to activate and deactivate airplane mode to take effect, or reboot your phone.

It's not necessarily an issue with the flashing process.

yeah that is when the phone is booted up. but if you had a custom recovery there are many ways to fix it........but that is too late now......lol

i do not know about the rest of the folks, but even the term soft brick is misleading. if the phone is truly bricked you can't fix it. if it is "soft bricked" as they say then that means it is fixable which means your phone was never bricked in the first place......i know i'm being picky....lol
