SG3

Lurker
I need to get a new phone by the end of this week. I ordered an unlocked Galaxy S3 from Amazon but I've been told later that internet wouldn't work on it without contract so I returned it. Is there really no way to get 3G or 4G intenet on Galaxy S3 without a contract? Please help

Also if you want to be able to connect to the Forums from your Android device, be sure to check out the free Phandroid app in the Google Play Market. Cheers!!!!

SG3,

Here's the deal. YOU CAN'T LOSE WITH ANY OF THOSE CHOICES!!! They may even be more than what you need. If it was me, I'd be all over the sg3, but that's because I'm an Android freak. I tell you what, why don't you check the phone's sections on this site and see for yourself what folks say. I will tell you this... of those phones? Everyone is going to be passionate about each and every one of them. :)

Good luck!

Steven

Steven,
Thank you so much for your response. I am myself all over Galaxy S3 but here is a thing. I can't get clear response if I can get 3G or 4G internet if I buy it without a contract. If there is no way to get internet on S3 without a contract then I'll consider getting it with a contract. But I don't know which of providers to choose, I never tried any of them.
Thank you
Veronika

Welcome to the AndroidForums, Veronika.

I'm pretty sure that the wi-fi would work without a contract, but the 3G or 4G would not because you wouldn't have a carrier assigned to service your data/network needs (or be compensating them for that).

I think the SGS3 will work on a multitude of carriers, but you'd have to double-check that the one you want will add your device to their network.

Depending on where you live and how close you are to a providers towers (and the quality of the radios in the phone) will largely determine how well the network will perform for your phone.

Check out this site Carrier Coverage for Android Phones | CarrierCoverage.com for a starting place to see how well the carriers stack-up in your area (there are several websites that do this, so check around, too :).

Cheers and we're very glad you signed-up with us here at AF!

Thank you so much for information. When u say wi fi might work without a contract but it won't be 3G or 4G, does it mean that the internet is going to be painfully slow? I live in NJ across the river from Manhattan. Maybe someone has an unlocket SGS3 in that area and knows how it works there without contract. Thank you
