Galaxy S3 or S5?

Im in a situation where Im not sure which phone I should get or if I should wait.
I have virgin mobile as my provider. I have a bonus paycheck coming in and not sure whether I should get the Galaxy S3 or S5.
The S3- 200
The S5- 600

Which would you spend money on?

Right now im just looking for a phone thats much faster then my crappy galaxy s2/ my epic touch 4g. Right now Im having problems with how slow it is and how it freezes occasionally.

This is my phone- Amazon.com: Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G Android Phone, Black (Sprint): Cell Phones & Accessories

to me the S3 is too old now. it is also much slower than the S4. the S5 would depend on how tolerant you are of pastels and an iOS 7 lookalike TouchWiz. and i am not one of them. in fact i hated iOS 7's flat UI so much i went to Samsung for that reason--because of their beautiful, nature-like 3-D polish. it seems the latest models are giving that up sadly, so i'll keep my Note 3 until it dies.

I dont care if the phone is old or not, i need a decent upgrade from my s2. which only has 1gb ram. I notice the s3 has double that at a 1.5 ghz processor.
would you spend $600 on the newest phone without a sale going on or $200 on the phone thats discounted and might be a little old?

If you can splash the cash, I'd always advise going for the most recent model i.e. the S5. You want something that will stay the course for a couple of years.

Why not split the difference and look at the S4? It's still getting active support from Samsung, is cheaper to buy than the S5, and would still be a big improvement on an S2/Epic 4G.

p.s. I'll move this upstairs to the Comparisons sub-forum.

Galaxy S5 - Great a rounder, water proof and will last you a few years with current flagship performance, great display, great camera with great battery life.

Galaxy S3 - Low end device by today's standard's, horrible display, dated hardware and below average camera, below average battery life

You get what you pay for, it's not that the Galaxy S3 is a bad phone, it's still quite capable but we have moved on a lot since it was released.

Thanks guys for the help, Guess iim going for the S5 then :) now what case is best? Im looking for a sort of heavy duty case but not as costly as the lifeproof /otterbox. What do you reccommend?
