Galaxy s3 question

hello everyone,

i just switched back to tmobile yesterday.and i got the galaxy s2 on a payment plan.and then i updated it to ICS. now from my understanding the s3 will have the same duel core cpu as the s2.

so will the s3 be faster then my s2?

and the tmobile guy said i can bring back my s2 when the s3 comes out and pay a restocking fee of $50 and get the s3 with no additional money and same plan.
would that be a better deal or stick with my s2?

thanks for the help

The S3 has a QUAD core CPU, not a dual core. The S2 has a 1.2GHz dual core while the S3 has a 1.4GHz quad. In my experience, it's been quite a bit faster than my previous S2, but that's just me

The international version has a quad core, but the North American is an S4 dual core processor.

To answer your question, it will definitely be faster and well worth making the trade. Don't even think twice about it!!

Would love to know advantages and disadvantages between the two, for all you techies that could explain this in better detail. And possibly why they would take this approach. Thx

The differences between the quad and dual processors that is.

The quad doesn't support LTE or tmobiles hspa 42.

So in North America we get the dual core S4.

As far as cpu the S4 is a great chip and about on par with the quad. And it should (in theory) get great battery life.

The quads gpu is a lot better than the dual core though.

If you're talking about the difference between the European quad core version and the American dual core version their performance is purported to be very similar. You might get slightly better performance on games that are optimized for quad core but that is about it.

Although the S2 and the S3 are both dual core they are not the same chip. The chip in the S3 is much faster and more efficient than the one in the S2 even though they are both dual core cpu's.

Some of the benefit's that you could expect from the S3 over the S2 are:

-much faster and efficient processor
-smoother performance
-better battery life
-better screen
-lots of nifty (and some not so nifty) features
-better camera

Hope this helps!

Though US versions will have dual core S4 krait unlike new quad Exynos in international version, it's vastly improved dual core over S3 snapdragon from last year.

Quad vs Dual is moot point when the processor architecture is different, more advanced and apps are just beginning to utilize dual core. US versions of GSIII will have 2Gb of RAM on top of it, so it will blow anything from last year out of water.

You have to look at benchmarks to determine any real difference between the quad-core Exynos and the dual-core Krait. Both will give a smooth experience to the Galaxy S3.

on the back of my box for my s2 it says my processor is the (qualcomm snapdragon s3 processor with 1.5ghz dual-core cpu)..i just want to make sure it is worth the trade.

This benchmark will give you idea how much S4 processor in US GSIII is faster than S3 processor in your Tmo GSII. See the difference between One X (AT&T) with S4 Krait chip and HTC Rezound with S3 Snapdragon. That's pretty big difference in performance.

:O. Seriously :O. Wow. That doesn't make much sense :S. I thought they would have had a better quad core :S. OK then, ignore my last post :P

And the t-mobile is 1.5ghz, not 1.2.
(Except mine is now 1.8 thanx to J. I wish I could find those benchmark test apps just to see how this would stand up against those S2/S3 results. Though I know the S3 would still blow this thing out of the water because of the reasons discussed)(And that HTC)

Edit: My mistake. Already covered.

The S4 processor is in the HTC one S. It's a very capable processor, it also runs a lot cooler than all the current top performing processors wich will help with longevity & battery life. If you want to get an idea how fast it is look up some benchmarks of the One S. The 2gb of ram is where this bad boy will shine though.
