Galaxy S3 Watering Hole

I think I will learn the lingo first. I have read up for the last several months on rooting ,but some of the terms I am uncomfortable with. I basicly want to know my phone will have the same exact functions it currently has and I get to add extra ones. Bacj to the droid study grindstone..... Where is my Vodka lol

I have mainly kept my devices stock. I just root for backups mainly. My OG Droid I flashed almost daily. Go ahead and ask if there are any terms you need help with and I'll do my best to answer.:)

It's really not that difficult. There are step buy step instructions for every device. Just read, read again, and if you don't understand something, read a third time. Ask questions.

Yes, your phone will function exactly the same (unless you install a custom ROM, then it will function totally different). Rooting just to use root apps is why I rooted my Droid X. I didn't get into custom ROMS till months later. And I went back to stock more often that custom.

And no, Vodka will not help with the rooting process.

I rooted the phone and got ClockWorkMod in the same go... still to scared to flash a custom ROM but I would love to put Cyanogenmod CM10 on if and when it is stable (and everything works off course).

Cilantro cream sauce : Just read that to my wife & she drooled a little bit. She is on her cilantro kick right now. She goes back & forth between that & rosemary. Frankly, I'd be happy if she kicked the rosemary to the curb.

Totally w/ you on the Verizon holding us hostage deal. If I wanted to be in phone jail I would have gotten an iPhone. :puke:

Gotta go my bowl of Rice Chex is calling my name.....hey what's this geen stuff on my cereal ? :p

Tonight's menu.....

Blackened chicken Cesar salad it is....
a nice crisp Riesling and a crusty loaf of sourdough baguette broiled with garlic and white cheddar cheese.

Settings > Application manager > All. Here you will see all the applications. Select on the ones you don't want. Some you can disable & some you can't. This will remove the app icons in your pages.

Then yes....
I just don't like the wifi "reminder" and the "cloud auto update "

That's the stuff that gets me .

I WANT TO USE MY DATA RIGHT NOW !!!!

IE....At work I have to use data, since the wifi kicks you off every 20 min ...

The Wi-Fi pop up that your talking about is a know problem. Even when unchecked it still comes on. I know thats annoying. Give me a minute to find that fix for you.

I've never had an issue with the WiFi reminder. I turned it off the first day, and haven't seen it since. Weird how some issues affects some and not others.

What's the cloud auto update? I haven't heard of that issue.

Welcome sir, glad you finally made it over. Nice to see the '97 Accord SE ( Black Currant Pearl ) parked in the watering hole garage :D. Man, I miss that car. Kind of FedEx purple :p
Haha, it's called Plum, thank you. And the ONLY reason I own a Plum colored car is because I got a GREAT deal used. Paid about $1500 less than KBB back in 2003! Honda's last FOREVER!

I get the Wi-Fi, but yeah cloud ??

The Black Currant Pearl ( Plum ) is the official Honda color name, that's my OCD kicking in ( see other posts ). The color is awesome my friend, even though my friends called me Barney when I had it. That's my most favorite Honda / Acura I've owned to date ( currently on # 12 ). Any who, before I start boring people ( unless you've already tuned out by now ) how about them Olympics.

OMG.... !!!! It works !!!! I love love love Ya'll !!!!

Now ...1 more question (and it's a biggie )

My Hubby and I both have S3. Unlimited Data (thanks to phandroid)
I pay $30 extra for him to have the tethering with unlimited data on it as well.

The Foxfi app allows you to tether without paying $30.

Do I cx his tethering ? He by far uses WAAAAY more data than I do (about 10g/mt)

I would hate VZW to somehow charge me for his data if I cx the $30 extra/mth fee.

Found it! It's a little dated as my device ownership list has changed, but more or less covers my thoughts.

Very good write up UF!!

"What about my warranty?

Rooting voids your warranty. Make no mistake about it. I have rooted 4 of the 7 android devices I own knowing full well that the ones I rooted would not be covered under warranty. I carry insurance on all of my devices as that covers any problem regardless if I root (like when my wife dropped her phone in the toilet). This comes at a monthly cost and a per incedent deductable, but does protect me if I go too far with something. I would rather pay $80 to replace a $600-$700 phone instead of committing fraud. My ethics and my own personal paranoia don't allow me to do that."

This is the only thing that I partially disagree with. If I fry my cpu by overclocking or brick my phone... its my fault... I'll pay the price. However, If I am rooted and my power button falls off I am returning the phone to stock and bringing it in for warranty work.

Actually it's half Plum now. Like many old Honda's, the paint is peeling (roof, hood, trunk). But I don't want to spend the money on a paint job cause it's a 15 year old car. I'm afraid if I spend money on paint, Murphy's law will kick in and I'll have a mechanical issue pop up. LOL.

Barney, LOL. I never got that, but I did get a lot of "Purple? Really?" But I just kept seeing that price tag!

I've only watched maybe an hour of the Olympics. I just haven't been into them like I was when I was younger.

I've recently left Acura/Honda:o (my fiancee just inherited my RSX). Love the cars very reliable.. they just don't make anything that excites me to drive anymore:( I would go back in second if they got rid of the beak and made them fun again.

What's your current acura Treb?

Stay w/ Firefox or just pay $20 w/ Verizon : Verizon: No free tethering for unlimited data plan customers | ZDNet

Call me Pup.:)

Most manufacturers seem to deal with hardware defects in good faith regardless of root so that part is a bit of a disclaimer. However, if I had over clocked my OG Droid's 600 MHz processor to 2.4 GHz and melted a hole through the battery cover I certainly wouldn't expect it to be covered by warranty.

I am on my first Honda... (I call her my big girl car). Accord V6 Fully loaded and not a speck of dust on her! (OCD...) . Bought her used w/ 14k miles on her and never had a problem (now at 70k)
I absolutely love her and could not imagine myself happier in a different car ! I will never by american again! I tried doing the "made in the USA" thing but NEVER again!
Although, I think I could learn to love an Acura ... just saying lol

2008 TSX ( Premium White Pearl...there's that OCD again :p ). I hate having a car this old, but w/ my job I drive alot of miles. So it doesn't make sense to have anything newer. If it weren't for my job I'd be in a newer TL. Not a fan of the beak either, but it is what it is.

I love that year TSX.. my brother has a 2008 in Nighthawk Black Pearl (same color as my (fiancees) 2006 RSX type S). I wish they had kept the TSX that size and made a type s with about 50 more horsepower. or put the turbo charged 4 cyl from the RDX in it.
