When I was reading I was clear that if it is a "dock" then it can react different than a "charger" . I don't own a dock (yet). So if I make it behave when I plug it into a charger, it won't know if I'm in a car, office or home.

Not a tasker user, but I would think you could combine triggers like on charge at location x, or on charge not at location x.

Elixir 2 will also do these but not automatically, you have to set up profiles and then a widget on your home screen, then tap the profile widget and select a profile manually.

The aim of suggesting Elixir 2, simply a free way to get used to making such profiles and getting an idea of what functions these can automate on your*** phone so when progressing to tasker or other app, you have some background knowledge as to what you can achieve, what you want to achieve and how to achieve it.

I know that some of the guys in the Nexus WH were using tasker with NFC stickers. And some were just using location. Depends on what your preferences are.

Iirc different types of chargers charge at different mah (milli amps per hour) and hence the phone can differentiate if your in a car or home or office or plugged into a pc.

I do have Elixer2 as you know. I love the simplicity of it. I am leaving the profiles as they are on that one until I learn the learning curve. It seems tasker is very specific in what it does. (A +B =C) and (C-B= A) whereas Elsixer is more comprehensive. when A happens do BCD...
Both are wonderful and I will use them to the best of my abilities (don't laugh) . I think Tasker is an app to grow on, and Elixer is a great warm up

Most welcome as always.

If you want to 'test' different chargers, make a 1x1 Elixir widget and make it 'battery voltage' and save it.

Then whenever you plug in, it will update every minute as to what the incoming voltage is (in ma/h) a standard wall socket is 999ma/h

I'll give it a shot. Just probably not in the next few days. Sprint says I'm in an LTE coverage area, but my phone detects no LTE, so I might be talking to Sprint reps, who will probably tell me to factory reset...

The phone can only recognize the difference if the device tells the phone what type of charger it is. If it doesn't detect a 'computer', it'll assume it's an AC plug or car charger. If it detects a computer, it'll sense it's getting a USB connection.

The purpose? None that I can tell. The circuitry seems to be able to input anything from 500 mAh (which USB provides) to 1000 mAh (AC adapter) and I doubt the mode is changed if it detects the computer.

TL;DR: It doesn't matter.

So today when hubby asks what happened in the hole... I can say, we talked about phone apps all day ! See, we do that sometimes !
 
A couple months ago, I was wearing size 44 pants.
Today, I slid into a pair of 36s. Granted, they where a bit tight, I did managed to get them buttoned. And they where "low riders"
 
I was pondering about using NFC stickers, my slight annoyance with them is that they're not state based from what I can tell.

If I was to use them it would be because it would sense when the tag was present or absent. From my understanding you have to swipe once to activate and again to deactivate.

Or I miss something somewhere?
 
The point of this post will become apparent as it evolves.

A lot of people maintain that the best launchers to use on ICS are either nova or apex.

I have tried them and personally didn't like them much. One of the main reasons was because I like to have home screen shortcuts to things like SBeam, NFC, Wifi direct, etc. And with nova / apex it can't be done.

Now, say what you will about launcher pro, but yes, it does these, and more, it might be old, decrepid and no longer supported by its dev, but it works, it's functional, and it has a way to shortcut to any service or settings screen, and that's one big thing I like about it.

So how does this fit in?

Evan if I do root and get tasker, Elixir 2 will still have a place on my phone to provide me with shortcuts to things that are not on the notification drop down buttons like those mentioned above.

I currently have:
Mobile data consumed
Wifi data consumed
Bluetooth toggle on/discoverable/off
Wifi toggle
Wifi hot spot toggle
Brightness toggle 20/40/60/80/100%/auto
Sync all - on, sync everything, off (automatically)
Clear cache (all)
Profile toggle - work/home/out & about

The beauty is the buttons are already there, just select what you want to use. :thumbup:

Your correct, you have to swype each tag to change the profile via NFC. Some apps program the tag, and some apps detect the UID of the tag and save the profile to the phone.
 
One use for tags would be WiFi configuration. So you wouldn't have to give out your router details, you just program a tag with the info, and guests with NFC enabled devices could tap it and be instantly connected to your WiFi. Would make it a lot easier when we all show up for pool parties.:)
 
The overall point is, you have the choice between NFC, or apps like Elixir or Tasker...

Do Apple give you the same choices?

No wait let's NOT go there! Lolz
 
I could see one use of an NFC tag - Toma's car.
Slightly complicated but I'll explain.

I have a Tasker profile that turns on Bluetooth when I leave my home network. This works fine for my truck because it'll connect to the first Bluetooth device it finds (preference being my S3).

Toma's car however has to be manually switched over which can only be done when the vehicle is stationery. However at that time it's still in the garage and thus still connected to the WiFi. This being the case the Bluetooth is switched off.

Well, with her car, you can only switch to another device if that device is running Bluetooth. So currently it fails. By the time my Bluetooth kicks in, I've left the house and can't change the settings on the car.

So, to make life easy, I was thinking about having a simple 'turn Bluetooth on' tag in the car, so when I got in the vehicle it would override Tasker and get me set up so I can change her car over to my phone.

Holy moley this thread is a beast. I step away for a couple days and I am 400 posts behind!

NFC tags, fwiw, are awesome. I have one on my front door that turns off WiFi and activates BT. Simple but useful.

Now has everyone been with me gone?
